Help with primer and paint

Seems like I wasn’t clear on my previous post, so I’ll try again.

What primer and/or paint do you suggest I use for a Hoosier cabinet I am redoing? It won’t be used in my kitchen, I don’t have the room. I’ll probably put it in my office.

First picture is the current cabinet. The second picture is a AI generated photo of what I would like the cabinet to look like.

Before and (hopefully) after help.

I am finally getting to work on an old Hoosier cabinet that’s in worse shape than I thought. Please keep in mind I have no idea what I’m doing and figuring it out along the way. The first pick is the cabinet in its current state. I had already removed the top left cabinet door and filled in some damage on the right door. My inspo pic (via AI) is at the end. I cleaned a lot of the hardware by soaking it in vinegar and brushing off remaining rust with a wire brush. I used Rub N Buff in autumn gold on the hardware and I think it looks pretty good. I’ve removed the top half and have started filling in holes and cracks. Next thing will be to sand it lightly, prime and paint.

Need Advice - what kind of paint and primer should I use? I am not looking to sell this so it will remain in my house. Thanks!

FRA Question

My husband just started collecting his SS at age 70. I’m 65 1/2 and not collecting yet. Is there any downside to my collecting before my FRA (67), other than a reduced benefit? FYI, my salary was almost as much as my husband’s.

Repair cabinet door for painting

I want to repaint this vintage Hoosier cabinet. The top doors had something stuck on the doors and when I removed them, the paint came off with the adhesive. Looks like it’s not wood underneath, more like some manufactured material. What product should I use to even out the door where the paint is missing? I am a total novice, so appreciate the help. Also, should I lightly sand before painting or just use a primer (or both)? TIA

SS & Medicare payment

My husband is already on Medicare, and his monthly Part B for traditional Medicare is auto-paid from our checking account, since he hasn’t started collected SS. He will start collecting SS in July (this month) with the first check coming in August. Now that his Part B, will be coming from his SS, does his Medicare payment for July come out of his check, coming in August? He already paid his July Medicare from our checking account on June 22nd. Just want to be sure we’re not double paying his Medicare for July.

🍋Preserved Lemon & Olive Oil Cake

🍋Preserved Lemon and Olive Oil Cake🍋 -take 2. My first attempt was pretty good but not where I wanted it to be. The cake was good, but lacked that lemon tartness I wanted. The glaze tasted great by my drizzling skills were a hot mess.

This time, I went a little rogue and added some lemon zest to the cake batter. I also grated some zest after glazing. When making the glaze, I accidentally dumped all the fresh lemon juice I squeezed into the powdered sugar without measuring. Ooopsie. 😬 The good thing about glaze is you can just add more powdered sugar until the balance and consistency is where you want it.

I watched a couple of YouTube videos on drizzling and of course, everyone has the “best” way to it. The videos did give me some tips and a better understanding of consistency.

Bringing it to our Hillside Ave. pot luck tonight. Hoping it’s a hit. 🤞 If not, it’s back to the drawing board. The main goal for me, is trying and not worrying about perfection. I’ve always let “messing up” keep me from trying new things, but not any more.

Water softener and RO in Tampa, FL

I am considering getting a water softening system and RO for drinking water in Tampa. My neighbor uses Culligan. I’ve read a lot in here and am totally overwhelmed by the information. My husband and I are moderately-low level handy and the jargon is confusing. I don’t want to overspend but I also don’t have the knowledge of systems to install or know what to consider. We’re in a one story, 1600 sq. Fr home, 2 people, no garage. Can anyone help me out with simple suggestions? I can tell you how cable TV and FTTH works and how signals are transmitted in great detail (part of my former line of work) but this water softener stuff is over my head. Be gentle but firm. Thanks!

How to secure patio umbrella in case of hurricane

We just purchased a cantilever umbrella for our screened in patio. The base is filled with 300 lbs. of sand. We won’t be able to move it outside the screened area in case of a hurricane. What would be the best way to secure it in case a hurricane hits?
