Dyed mud > green aug result

Dyed this thing last week and let it sit for a bit before making this post

Overall; meh whatever. Looks perfect for olive drab, like actual olive drab not "od green aug" which is just RAL7013. I very much wanted closer to RAL7013 but it's dye and dye sucks. I like it better than mud so it will do until restock (lol).

Process was 2 gallons of water, large foil pan on the stove that could completely submerge it. approximately 2 teaspoons of peacock green and half of a teaspoon of chocolate brown, 185 degrees for 2 hours. I used another pan to keep it from evaporating too much. It NEEDS to be monitored for evaporating and temp control. All metal parts need to be removed, it will strip some parkerizing and rust.

This is wildly less than rit dyes "ranger green" recipe, which is a cup + a half of a cup for 2 gallons, which during testing turned a Magpul tan grip into a dark purple. I tested about 10 pieces of fde scrap with different mixes and using barely any was way better.

The Aug stock is Nylon66 and rit synthetic requires a minimum of 180 degrees, so you have to be very careful with the temperature to not run off over 200.

First photo represents it out of direct sunlight very well, second photo in direct sunlight, third photo compared to two different ranger greens (first spear and BFG). On the fourth photo you can see that they dye definitely isn't perfect and suffering from some sploching, this is the worst of it. It is not bad though and doesn't really bother me.

I'm about to commit a war crime on this fucking mud stock if Steyr doesn't restock the greens ➡️

And I'm sure it's going to come out terrible
