I am coming pretty late to the party. Not only have I JUST stumbled onto BattleTech even existing (the urge to paint ROBOT led to this new addiction xD), but also I realized I was in a reasonable distance to drive to GenCon like 3 days before it happened xD Oh well! I guess I’ll go next year (for DaggerHeart AND BattleTech ^^).

As a new player that’s coming off the TTRPG scene and being typically the gm, I’m feeling a little crazy without some serious bookage around me. From what I’m reading and seeing online, there were a bunch of recent-ish books, but the most key ones seem to be scalped by now (like everything else fun… 🫩).

Namely it sounds like I needed Mech Manual and Technical Manual but those are on eBay for over $100 even though they’re just a few years old.

I’ve also been eyeing Total War, Campaign Operations, and Universe. Are these books good references for designing lances, especially in-lore ones?

And really, are these books being replaced in a meaningful way by the Core coming out next month? Should I just wait for that?

I assume even if on the rule level it’s great, I’ll still need the TRO for the older eras I want to play, correct?

Anyone with a copy, I especially appreciate your insight!

There are eight figures in this box, there are holes for eight figures; yet a promo page inside the box shows nine figures. The discrepancy is Awesome and Griffin. Is it supposed to be random which one you’ll get? I seem to have an Awesome figure and a Griffin card. If I order the Beginner box, will it have the Griffin figure and Awesome card? 🤣 please tell me I’m missing something very simple, silly, and vital.

I was so excited the new expansion showed up a day before a game. It’s a fresh original campaign so I let the players paw through the new cards and one chose to respec into a new “borne” region.

One player decided to use a set from the fancy d12s.

And I really enjoyed and made good use of my fancy new set of chunky sharp edged dice, dm screen, and fear tokens.

The dungeon was a pit of spiders so I used the stat block for the shadow monsters but reskinned them onto just regular oversized varieties and went hog wild describing skin crawling spider antics.

One player was awarded one of the new starters weapons via a roll chart I made for loot drops as well.

We chatted about monsters and I shared some of the great new designs including, of course, the glorious FOWLBEAR.

Overall it was a great session and, aside for how heavy my GM bag is now, I really adore this supplement and am glad I went for DX. Normally I don’t get to use supplemental stuff so quickly so it was terrific how naturally it meshes in with the existing core.

I've been trying to get minis but it's weirdly hard to come across simple things like spiders and rats! So I've taken matters into my own hands with some token stands and some artist board. I might make fancier versions later but I'm pretty happy with this for now.

Most of all, Hope & Fear came in HUGE clutch as there's a whole grouping of spider creature stat blocks. Reskinning to be just normal oversized spidies plus a Lolth style spider queen, but it's added a lot more variety to my move options. I just had a core poison move on a skulk style and that was it.

It should be pretty tough of a journey now! ^^

Just got mine in time for another session tomorrow! The fear tokens and GM screen has me most excited. Having an official daggerheart set that’s also part red is pretty amazing. All the dice I usually use are red. Enjoy the math rocks closeup!
