BUG: Deleting drafts from overview also deletes whole thread.

I've just tried finding out why exactly some e-mail (replies) are always black-on-white-text on dark mode, so created a lot of empty drafts. Obviously, Epistles also auto-saves empty drafts when going 'Back' without typing anything. Went to 'Drafts', and since I don't need my fake drafts, selected all and deleted them.

As opposed to other e-mail clients, not only my drafts, but the whole threads got deleted. I'm glad I saw it before they disappeared forever…

Bug: CardDAV contact groups are shown as contacts with no data

The few contact groups I have show as single contacts in Epistles.

Bug: Not all event colours match underlying CalDAV calendar's colour

While some event colours are getting close to the ones I gave my CalDAV calendars they are from, others are far off. Red and yellow are just showing as red and are thus indiscernible. Green is showing as light blue.

Bug: CalDAV and CardDAV not working on Android

I've long added my DAV account to my Windows client. It also shows up on Android as an account, but contacts and calendar events never show up.

Bug: E-mail search window in calendar makes no sense—and never worked

Epistles persistently shows the search window at the top on the calendar sub-page. Lucky for us, it never worked.

It would however make more sense to be able to search calendar events.

Bug: E-Mails with attached PDF open Save window(s)

Was here on 1.4.0, is still here with 1.4.4: When opening an e-mail with a PDF attachment, Epistles auto-opens a Save-as Explorer dialogue window—for each attachment. Meaning, if you have four PDFs attached to an e-mail, it will auto-open four windows.

PrimeTask intro offer vs. Windows version

Hey there,

I just came across PrimeTask yesterday, and today got the intro-offer-and-launch e-mail. However, since I'm working solely on Windows, I'm afraid I can't test PrimeTask before the offer expires. Do you have any concrete plans for the Windows launch? The e-mail only says it's 'planned for a later release'. And as it stands, from the screenshots only, I have no idea how PrimeTask really feels and if it's right for me.

Bugs Android: Scrolling inside e-mails, or cannot scroll up again

While feverishly trying to find a singular e-mail that I must have lost while trying out Epistles (the rest of the e-mails from the thread are still there), I had hope I'd find it in the Android version, perchance due to missing syncs. Nope, it's gone.

And while browsing through e-mail threads, I once again realised that sometimes an e-mail stays in place, but the actual scrolling is inside the e-mail body, as if that div had an overflow:scroll rule. It's hard to get to the next e-mail in the thread then, as fast scrolling appears to do nothing, and the big header asking whether I want to allow images already takes away valuable screen estate. Sometimes even when scrolling, the text would jump, and it's even harder to get to the bottom, as the bottom of the e-mail is constantly re-defined. Now, adding to the confusion is the behaviour on Android that, on top of that, a tap somewhere on the e-mail can lead to no movement at all - you can't scroll up or down. I suspect it's simply tapping on the HTML content of an e-mail that triggers the no-escape behaviour.

No idea. And I'm running out of patience. I know you value my input, but most of these things can be found by using the app, and I don't even do it productively and rather superficially. Not all of the issues are system-related, and could have been identified through basic structured research and tests. Some things, like auto-rising e-mail counts in threads with ghost e-mails solely in Epistles, although there are no new replies (one thread of mine has 21 replies, Epistles claims it's 36!), defunct read receipts or broken DAV support, have been here since 1.0. And from the looks of it, you rather relied on some UI template than a real UI/UX designer, as so many UI and UX flaws and real issues - aside from things that are just based on taste - still exist and have to be pointed out for you to work on them. It's been a week since you released Epistles, and with every new version, there were literally new bugs and issues.

Again, thanks for the kind words, but I think I'm done with Epistles. This feels like work, and unpaid after all. I hope you'll gain some deeper insights not only into the technical difficulties of running a modern e-mail client with calendar and contacts, but also into UI and UX, and you'll make Epistles a worthwhile e-mail client with just an occasional flaw or bug once in a while.

Bug: IMAP Authenticate failed: Max. no. of connections exceeded

This is a new one, and I honestly never had this with any other e-mail client. Apart from e-mail threads with empty doubles and triples and quadruples of e-mails, I'm now getting a warning on Android:

>IMAP AUTHENTICATE failed: NO [LIMIT] Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded (mail_max_userip_connections=15)

Bug: Shortcuts don't work inside opened e-mail

When I open up an e-mail and click inside it, shortcuts for deleting, archiving, replying etc. do not work - unless I click on the small edge beside the e-mail, which seems to remove some kind of focus from the e-mail.

Bug: E-mails suddenly show 13 years old message in current support thread

Funny, but when I open an e-mail thread with you ('Epistles 1.3.2 log (only showing as black window)'), my last reply shows a Twitter notification e-mail from 2013 instead of my actual reply. As it stands, I'm sure I didn't send you this e-mail, and I can see on another client that the body of the e-mail is indeed as I sent it. Windows 1.3.6.

Android: Sign-up/login screen looks like it is disabled

When opening Epistles for the first time on Android, the register modal looks like it's completely disabled, due to the weak contrast between elements and the otherwise bright 'Create an account' heading.

UI: Interface font-size and contrast issues

At the moment, the interface on Windows is rather tiny. There is a rule for websites not to go beyond 16px for font sizes if you want to stay accessible. While this might be up for debate on an app, especially the font size of smaller elements is almost illegible. You should either increase font sizes for normal text elements (e.g. e-mail lists: recipient/sender, text preview) or give users an option to zoom the interface.

Furthermore, with any of the themes, the contrast between foreground and background colours is too low. Readability is heavily affected, even for abled users. Light grey on a mid-grey background is not really a good choice.

Update: This also includes the contrast for hover/focus of e-mails etc.

Bug: Still no sending with Ctrl + Enter on Windows (1.3.6)

It's still not possible to send an e-mail with Ctrl + Send, although I have explicitly set this as my keyboard shortcut, and you named it as one of the fixed things in a recent update.

When I reply to an e-mail that is already archived or in my Sent folder, the notification shouldn't show 'Archived'.

UI improvement: Only show the last sender's avatar in e-mail lists instead of two (or more?)

At the moment, Epistles shows (at least) two avatar icons in e-mail lists (like Inbox, Archive, Sent…), which causes e-mail subjects to shift a bit to the right. It's sufficient to show only one avatar and make e-mail lists calmer in Epistles. The rule that most likely makes the most sense would be:

  1. Show only the avatar from the other person. I know I've been part of the conversation.
  2. If there are multiple persons involved in a thread, only show the last sender's avatar that's not me.
  3. Only show my own avatar when it is a sent-only mail, i.e. I haven't received any replies to it.

Feature request: Show whole thread in Sent folder, not only sent part of threads

At this point, Epistles only shows me my own e-mails in the Sent folder of an account (still longing for a unified Sent folder, by the way), even threaded together. The way other clients handle it makes more sense: include the ones I received and replied to as well, so I get the full thread instead of only sections.
