At breaking point with a leaking shower
we had our bathroom done 1.5 years ago. the company we were contracted with did our previous bathrooms. they were brilliant. at the time they were unable to do the fit out so they said another company will do it (but our contract was always with them).
we later had a downstairs extension done and upon opening realised the wood floor structure below was soaked. we called and they said the original company will fix. the company came out and did 3 different repairs and eventually the leaking stopped. we waited it till dried a bit, our builder checked the wood, it’s 1930 solid hard wood and ventilated floors he said it’s still in good nick but it was months of getting wet.
anyway it’s started leaking again, staining the new extension downstairs and leaking into the electrics.
im fed up honestly. im stressed about the structure the state of inside and downstairs plasterboard.
when it leaked previously he redid the main joints first and then it carried on so he siliconed every joint around the shower, our builder checked for us and said a few were thin and not present in many weak joints (where tile met tile), siliconed the whole niche including what was previously grout lines And put all the niche tiles at an angle so water doesn’t fit in the niche (the bottles slide out but the brass edging stops them mostly from falling)
in general I’ve been frustrated, the flooring needs redoing as it’s uneven. the original company initially refused any issues but I have three different companies and our builder check it as poor companionship.
my husband and I are at odds. with young kids I just want someone else to redo it. He said it’s faster to get the guy back and see what the issue is. I’m not convinced patching up is ok. I asked if it was marine plasterboard and now looking at this sub I realise it was normal. I don’t feel they will pick up the issue either as at the repair attempts it was often my builder help me figure out what was wrong. im kind of at the point that if it needs to be fight I’m kind of fine with it. I just dont want to keep soaking the structure where we only realise it’s leaking when it shows up downstairs.
I already agreed a floor redo with the company who did downstairs for us they were fabulous and agreed a decent price (we’re still waiting for the electrician to send a new thermostat, the underfloor heating hasn't worked in over a year), there are still a few bits outstanding like incorrect face on the toilet. I’m possibly very tired but with work, two under 4 and one shower - I just want the shower fixed..:
ivw Included photos of works at the point of install, we weren’t living here at the time so I didn’t see what happened between plasterboard and tiling going on. Any help or advice please do share, I’m losing sleep over it
