MLB Fantasy Aug 8: 5 Starting Pitchers Trending Up

Same look at our game logs, starting pitchers only. Last 5 starts against every start before that. Minimum 5 prior starts so it is a real baseline, not a pitcher back off the IL.

  • David Peterson, SP, CHC. Last 5 starts: 28.7 IP, 20 K, 1.57 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 2 wins. First 16 starts: 7.04 ERA, 1.75 WHIP in 70.3 IP. Be honest about what it is though, the strikeouts went the wrong way (6.3 per nine recently against 8.2 before). That is contact management, not new stuff.
  • Jacob Lopez, SP, ATH. Last 5 starts: 24.3 IP, 30 K, 2.22 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 2 wins. First 9 starts: 6.07 ERA, 1.77 WHIP in 43.0 IP. Strikeouts came with it, 6.5 per nine before and 11.1 now.

Ran our own game logs through Aug 7. Last 14 days against everything before it. These five moved the most in real categories, not just one loud week.
Ceddanne Rafaela, OF, BOS. Last 14 days: .333 (19-for-57), 5 HR, 15 RBI, 11 R, 3 SB in 13 games. First 96 games: .278, 10 HR, 44 RBI, 13 SB in 374 at-bats. He hit half as many home runs in the last two weeks as he did in the first four months. Still on waivers in shallow leagues.
Jung Hoo Lee, OF, SF. Last 14 days: .341 (15-for-44), 3 HR, 5 doubles, 11 RBI in 11 games. First 94 games: .302, 5 HR, 21 doubles in 354 at-bats. He was a batting-average-only guy all year. Eight extra-base hits in 11 games is a different profile. If you needed average and were eating a zero in power, this fixes it.
Roki Sasaki, SP, LAD. Last 4 starts: 24.0 IP, 26 K, 1.88 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 2 quality starts. First 16 starts: 5.33 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 80 K in 81 IP. The strikeouts were always there, the ratios were killing you. Those are fixed right now and he's on a team that will get him wins. I'm buying.
Marcus Semien, 2B, NYM. Last 14 days: .275, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 10 R, 2 SB in 13 games. First 84 games: .204, 10 HR, 29 RBI in 304 at-bats. He was one of the worst everyday hitters in baseball for four months. If your league dropped him he's sitting on the wire, and 2B is thin.
Pete Crow-Armstrong, OF, CHC. Last 14 days: .321 (18-for-56), 4 HR, 14 RBI, 15 R, 4 SB, 9 walks in 14 games. First 103 games: .285, 22 HR, 24 SB, 53 walks in 379 at-bats. Not a pickup, he's rostered everywhere. The walks are the part worth noting. Nine in two weeks against 53 in four months means the on-base floor is finally catching up to the power and speed.
