"Bayer 04 Leverkusen has comprehensively revised its plans for the Bayer 04 Campus on Alfred-Nobel-Straße in Monheim, thereby responding to criticism from some members of Monheim’s political leadership as well as from residents. The focus was particularly on issues regarding the scale of the project, environmental and animal welfare, potential noise and traffic impacts, and alternative sites in the region. The club has responded to these issues with concrete proposals for solutions. The revised concept will now be presented to the public via a dedicated website and at a town hall meeting, following discussions and further development during several consultation sessions with the coalition of the CDU, SPD, Greens, and FDP.

Compared to the original version, the following points in particular have changed in the concept:

The facility has been significantly reduced in size.

The distance to residential areas has been significantly increased. Additional vegetation is planned to shield residents from noise and light.

The existing small wooded area will be connected to the open-land corridor, whose area will be nearly doubled.

There is a walking, jogging, and cycling path serving as a recreational and natural space for residents.

The footprint of the multifunctional building is now smaller and is located outside the green corridor, entirely on the area for which a valid zoning plan already exists.

A new access and parking plan will relieve traffic in the residential areas near the campus. The parking garage is now planned to be built on the adjacent CropScience site across the street."
