Telenovela couples with the most chemistry

For me Eduardo Vérastegui and Aracely Arámbula are one of the couples who had the most chemistry in Telenovelas. They starred together in Soñadoras and later in Alma Rebelde. Even though their relationship was toxic in Soñadoras, I’ve seen many people comment that Manuel and Jacqueline were the reason they watched the telenovela. Their chemistry was off the hook.

When Alma Rebelde’s ratings were low, they brought Aracely in as a second love interest for Eduardo’s Emiliano (and Mauro who was also played by Eduardo), and rival to the main female character. It’s not a great telenovela, but I watched it for Emiliano/Mauro and Maria Elena.

Decades later people still talk about these two and how they wish they had stayed together in real life.

Other actors and actresses with strong chemistry, that I liked, in no particular order:

Fernando Colunga and Thalia/Fernando Colunga and Lucero (it’s a draw for me, he had great chemistry with both of them) in the María trilogy and in Alborada.

Fernando Carillo and Adela Noriega in María Isabel.

Mauricio Islas and Iran Castillo in Preciosa.

Alejandro Ruiz and Nora Salinas in Esmeralda.

Alfonso Herrera and Dulce María in Clase 406.

Eduardo Santamarina and Barbara Mori in Rubí.

Sergio Sendel and Biby Gaytan in Dos Mujeres Un Camino.

Sergio Goyri and Sasha Sokol in El Premio Mayor.

Why men are so attracted to Rubí

I’ve seen some people perplexed and question why men are so attracted to Rubí in spite her not having much going for her, aside from her remarkable beauty. She doesn’t have a college degree, she doesn’t have friends (aside from Loreto), she is doesn’t have a job, doesn’t seem to have much hobbies, etc., the list goes on. Well, here are the reasons why men are attracted to her:

She is devastatingly beautiful. This one is rather obvious, but Rubí possesses the type of beauty that comes once in a lifetime. The type of beauty both men and women would kill for. Women want to be that gorgeous and men want to be with a woman that gorgeous. It doesn’t matter if she has a PhD and a job, or not. Men don’t care about that. I’ve seen countless men say it online and in real life: They do not care about her education or what she does for a living (not all men share this mentality, but a lot do). If a woman is as gorgeous as Rubí, they are going to chase her. They will do things they normally wouldn’t do, break their own rules, standards, etc. in order to get with her.

She is exciting. Rubí lives for the moment and gets bored easily. Which is why she requires lots of excitement, and why she sometimes does very amoral things. You see the men who court Rubí having a good time with her. I never saw Alejandro enjoying himself and having the time of his life with Maribel or Sonia, the way he did when he was courting Rubí. The same with Hector. They went out dancing, drinking and eating, traveling, etc. Both Alejandro and Hector were on top of the world, and happy to be blowing money, just to be with Rubí. Why? Because she made them feel alive in a way no other woman could.

She is not easy to get with. Rubí has incredibly high standards and if you want a chance to at least go on a date with her, you must meet her requirements. You better be wealthy, handsome, educated, well-mannered, willing to take care of her, and meet her every need. The man also has to be a self-made millionaire or billionaire. People ask why she didn’t get with Luis, who was rich and attractive. Alejandro explained it early on when he realized she was a gold-digger: The rich men who went to school with her…their wealth belonged to their parents, not to them. This would limit what they would be able to give Rubí. Thus, she wanted a self-made man who made his own money. She also wasn’t willing to be anyone’s lover. When Saul and Yago proposition her, promising her money in exchange for sex, she turns them down. She wants marriage, which will ensure she gets to enjoy a life of luxury. She also isn’t willing to have sex with a man for love alone. When she and Alejandro dated, she wanted to sleep with him as much as he wanted to sleep with her. Rubí holds off on it though, because she it’s a boundary she has. The man has to wait, meet her standards, and treat her right if he wants access to her body. Once Rubí realizes Alejandro is not wealthy, she breaks up with him. It doesn’t matter how much she loves him. Rubí loses her virginity to the man she marries: Hector. Now compare that to Elena who was willing to be a side piece. Hector never falls for Elena, because she had no standards and was easy to get. It’s the thrill of the chase and Rubí’s unwillingness to bend her rules, that gets people like Alejandro, Hector, Paco, Saul, Yago, El Conde, etc., hooked on her.

Hybristophilia. While more common with women, there are some men out there who have an attraction to women whom they know are dangerous. Women with sociopathic tendencies or a criminal history. It is the thrill of the forbidden, a savior complex, and wanting to tame a woman who is not easy to control. This is part of Rubí’s allure. Most of the men who are drawn to her like a sailor to a siren, know of her dark nature. It’s what makes her more enticing. Even when they know they should stay away. Hector and Yago want to control her, Lucio is excited to find someone as dark triad as his former true love (whom he saw as his equal), and Alejandro wants to reform her.

Rubí is the Queen of Wands. For those not familiar with tarot archetypes, the Queen of Wands oozes charisma and sex appeal. She is the most beautiful and exciting woman to enter a room. She is passionate, fiery, and confident. People are instantly drawn to her like moths to a flame because she has the unmistakable je ne sais quoi.

This is why men become obsessed with her. She doesn’t need a college education, job, or friends. She is a force of nature that is hard to resist.

“Rubí tan bella, como inolvidable.”

TL;DR: Men become obsessed with Rubí because she is gorgeous, exciting, unattainable, dangerous, and charismatic.

Theory on Rubí’s ending

We all know how Rubí ends. If you don’t know, then stop reading.

Even though Rubí gets what’s coming to her, she grooms Fernanda into being just like her. It’s all part of her plan to get revenge against Alejandro and Maribel. In the final scene she succeeds. Alejandro enters his office and finds Fernanda waiting for him. He confuses her for Rubí and she manages to seduce him. The End.

Now there is a theory I have seen floating around. That theory is, that the ending was just a dream or revenge fantasy Rubí was having. She never met up with Fernanda in secret, to groom her into being like her, so she can use her for her revenge as an adult. Thus, Fernanda never seduces Alejandro. It was all in Rubí’s head.

To be honest this theory makes more sense. I think Cristina and Marco would have known if Fernanda was meeting up with Rubí. They would do everything in their power to keep her away from Rubí. Let’s not also forget that if she was going to the ghetto neighborhood where Cristina and Rubí grew up, the very same one Rubí tried to escape but ends up back in, Doña Lola, Onésimo, and Mariquita would all know. They would be quick to let Cristina and Marco know.

Therefore, I choose to believe this theory that it was all in Rubí’s head.
