I remember reading this story as a kid in Intermediate school in the late 80s or early 90s. In the story someone figured out why the kid was buying up all the cards and stopped him or explained why it wouldn't work.

I think it was likely an Encyclopedia Brown story as I had several of the books, or possibly something else by Donald J. Sobol. Asking Gemini about this it was certain it was an Encyclopedia Brown story called "The Case of the Baseball Cards" from "Encyclopedia Brown Solves Them All", but that is unfortunately a hallucination. I found the table of contents for that book online and it's not one of the stories. I've done more digging myself, looking through other books by Sobol and the Encyclopedia Brown books I can find, but haven't found the story I'm looking for.

Does anyone remember this story? I realize it may not be Encyclopedia Brown, but that's my working theory as those are the bulk of mystery books I read growing up. Any help is appreciated!

So earlier this year I got my ham radio license, and ever since Meshtastic has been popping up in various places. So yesterday I picked up a Seeed T1000 card to try it out. 

I understand the basics of what it does in terms of messaging and how the mesh works. I got it set up with my phone yesterday and put out a test message that got some replies, but it's quiet. 

I have 149 nodes currently in the list and there seem to be a good number here (NoVA / DC area), but no traffic on the public channels. 

So, what's everyone using this for?  Is it private messages to people you know?  Tracking objects? (Technically the Seeed card is a GPS tracker).  Mainly using it for hiking trips or other outdoor activities where cell service may not be great for group comms?

It seems neat and I've enjoyed messing with it.  Just wondering what everyone does with it and ways I might pitch it's usefulness to friends/family. 

For some reason the Renegade 05-11 release sticks with me and I've remembered the anniversary every year. It's hard to believe it's been 30 years! The 05-11 release was the final version that Cott Lang developed before passing on development.

The summer of 1996 was also the last year I ran my BBS as I moved away for college and the internet was really starting to take off. I recently picked up a nice collection of Night Owl CDs and they've brought back some good memories going through all that old Shareware.

Anyways, just wanted to say cheers to all the Telegard and Renegade SysOps out there both past and present. It's nice to see people are still interested in BBSes and the scene is alive after all these years. :)
