YouTube just forced a new player

If playback starts lagging, force stop, reopen, then you’ll see in song details like the screenshot below:

Some stuff you should know in 13.6.0

Hope you are enjoying the update!

Sometimes right after login/logout, it can take a second for playback to work nicely again, you can wait for the first song to play, or force stop the app, clear cache and reopen.

Uploaded - need login obviously

Age-restricted - need login

You will notice a new entry in settings - "stream sources". This shows all the playback clients that are being used. The order of clients tried is also on top of the page.

When logged out, all should work besides age-restricted (please correct me if I'm wrong).

When logged in, age restricted can play on most clients except visionOS/AndroidVR.

You can toggle clients on/off and mess around to see what's best for you, but best to leave them at default settings.

As YouTube updates their player.js quite frequently, there is now a remote pull on new players that I add, so that you won't need an APK update to have normal playback. The apk will automatically fetch the new configs. I push them as fast as I see them.

A scenario can happen that while you are using the app, YouTube forces the new player. You may get a playback error for a few seconds, but then it should self heal, if I have already updated the cipher configs.

The only (I hope it's the only 🤣) way this system completely breaks is if YouTube does a major overhaul, requiring an APK update. Let's hope that doesn't happen anytime soon.

The solution for most issues, especially when installing the app as an update, is to force stop, clear cache and reopen. Still having issues? Log out then back in and do the same.

If I can think of anything else I'll post later.
