As Harry looked at his first year list of text books one title stood out to him: A Beginner's Guide to Brewing Potions by Lily Potter.
As Hagrid brought Harry to London and Diagon Alley to get him ready for his first year at Hogwarts, Harry looked over his list of textbooks he needed to buy. One book in particular quickly caught his attention. A Beginner's Guide to Brewing Potions by Lily Potter.
Harry really didn't know anything about his parents. Just mean and probably inaccurate comments from the Dursley's considering all they had lied about. Now he knew his mum had a job writing potions textbooks, apparently while hiding from a dark wizard.
At the book store Harry picked up not just A Beginner's Guide to Brewing Potions, but also An Intermediate Guide to Brewing Potions and An Advanced Guide to Brewing Potions, both also by his mother. Hagrid didn't say anything about them not being on his list, but did give him a pat on the back. Harry spent as much of the rest of the summer as he could looking at his new textbooks. At least half that time was spent looking at the ones his mother wrote. He wanted to be good at potions like her.
He also started to wonder what his dad did and what his favorite type of magic was.
Years later while exploring the castle Harry came across an old potions textbook that belonged to his mother, and was full of corrections and notes in the margin.
Going into his sixth year Harry would be quite surprised to see yet another book by his mother on his school supplies list. A Guide To Dark Magic and Defense by Lily Potter.
