So, in my sessions reading some books and articles relating to Philippine history, I noticed a very significant gap in the teaching of history; the years between the arrival of Magellan and the Dagohoy and Silang revolts (1521-1760s). What I remember being taught in that time period is the galleon trade, and it being cut off in 1820, though I had to learn on my own why in particular that had to be cut.
I remember having to actually supplement the school curriculum myself to “fill in the blanks” somewhat, and there I learned about more things like the Chinese rebellions, the British Invasion, the Dutch attempts to take us.
So, why is this era not exactly taught much to the public?
I hope my memory has not failed me.
