Arizona Recos

My family is vacationing to Arizona- spending a couple days at the Grand Canyon (South Rim) and a couple days in Sedona. I’d love recommendations for places we can look for rocks, fossils, petrified wood, etc within driving distance of either location. A few considerations:

• kids are 7 & 10 years old, we’re willing to hike but not looking for anything too grueling

• I have no digging/searching experience so I’ll welcome any and all tips (even as basic as what tools I should bring or get there)

• ideally we’d like to be able bring whatever we find home. I know many places you have to leave everything. (certainly not expecting to discover anything rare or super cool but my kids will bring home regular old rocks from the dog park if they’re shiny, ha)

Thank you in advance!
