I just need the sickle and the blue garb... ladies...

update: they have surrendered all their loot! I am free of this farm! well... until I start another new character, I suppose, and do this to myself all over again

rejected for RSV vaccine because it was out of season... now I'm sick somehow and my 2-week-old baby has been exposed

I'm just really angry right now and need to talk about it somewhere.

I specifically asked for the RSV vaccine while I was pregnant and my OBGYN assured me that it was out of season, that I didn't need it, and that by the time it was a problem she would be old enough to get vaccinated. they don't even keep it on hand during the summer months, apparently.

well, I started running a fever yesterday, and went to urgent care on suspicion of mastitis (I had a fever, a headache/mild body aches, a painful clogged duct, and some swelling on that breast, but basically no respiratory symptoms)... somehow I tested positive on a rapid test for RSV. I have literally no idea how I could've been exposed. I've literally barely left the house since her first appointment with the pediatrician on the 17th, and none of my family members that have been around me and the baby (my spouse and my parents) have shown any signs of illness whatsoever. just me, and *maybe* the baby. I've been wearing a mask around her and handing off a lot of duties to my spouse since I got the positive test result, but I'd been interacting with her like normal before that, so she's already been exposed 😭😭

she seems like she's doing okay as of right now, her breathing is fine and she hasn't had a runny nose or any signs of poor circulation, but she has been extra fussy the past ~48 hours, her poop has been weird (very dark green all of a sudden when it's been normal breastfed baby color before now), and her eating schedule has changed (she eats smaller amounts more often, sometimes rejecting the bottle when she's acting hungry, and has been spitting up/getting sick more frequently, but she's still eating okay and requiring regular diaper changes and she hasn't had a fever at all). we're waiting on a call back right now from her pediatrician to see what she wants us to do, since she's scheduled for a routine appointment tomorrow morning anyway.

I am supposed to have my 2-week postpartum appointment tomorrow afternoon and I need to call them and see if they want to reschedule me since I'm sick but I can't bear to talk to them right now because I'm so angry and upset. I've cried my eyes out multiple times since last night. I don't want to blow up on them, but like, they ASSURED me there was basically no chance of her getting it out of season, and here we are anyway. it's making me consider switching to a different OBGYN going forward because I'm so bitter that they dismissed me so quickly only for us to get sick anyway when there exists a documented, easy way for this to have all been avoided.

it really sucks because aside from this I've had an amazing experience with them, so maybe I'm overreacting in the heat of being sick in the newborn trenches... I am equally angry at myself right now as I am with my doctors, and just feeling like a failure of a parent for not considering that maybe it *wasn't* mastitis and I had something transmissible. I didn't have the right symptoms, though, and I've been at home most of the time! it doesn't make any sense!

anybody else dealt with anything like this? is my daughter going to be okay? how can somebody get a highly transmissible illness out of season when they've basically stayed at home and away from people the entire time???

I really need some positive thoughts right now :(
