We caved

After almost 9 months of fostering, multiple adoption events, only 3 meet and greets, and 2 trial and returns (neither lasting more than a week) we decided to give in to our foster’s demands and adopt her. I still think there might be a better home than us out there for her; I was hoping to continue fostering, and had really hoped to have a small dog as my resident dog, BUT best laid plans and all that jazz. We do very much love her, we have a fairly successful system to manage her separation anxiety, and ultimately our goal was to help a dog that needed us; she really needed us. She fits into our life pretty well, and she’s come so far from the skinny bobble head bully I brought home on a blustery day in January.

Meet Jackie, our dog. ♥️🐾

6 months of foster

Hi friends!

We’ve been fostering our very sweet, but pretty anxious pitbull mix since February. She’s been adopted (and returned 24 hrs later) once, and had a positive series of meets with another couple who on the 3rd meet could not get her to stop pacing the play yard fence looking for me. They have since ghosted, despite a message check in last week. She’s great out at events (car shows, community events, a nursing home!) but she’s still had very little interest. I have an Instagram I update every other day, and I’ve made business cards with her info to pass out to people we meet.

This dog does have separation anxiety (why she was returned initially, even though they were warned.) it’s managed with medication and consistent routine. She is pretty attached to me, I will admit. Part of that may be bc I’m female. I am very affectionate with animals and she is a lovey girl. I also handle 90% of her care, so I’m the primary person. I do believe she can become attached this way to another person, but it will take time and some growing pains. I love her very much, don’t get me wrong, but she’s not what I envisioned for my personal dog (I wanted a small, and she’s a pitbull mix.)

I don’t think i could bring her back to the shelter, but I am a bit fatigued by her, and I don’t want to have to adopt her.

Any advice on any of it? Looking for ways to boost engagement, help w the separation anxiety, words of encouragement, I just need to hear some positivity right now.
