Alan Wake 1 combat is f*cking atrocious

The story, atmosphere, acting, setting; I love all of it. Immaculate. Unique and full of references to twin peaks.

The combat is fucking dog shit. Just got past the helicopter section and I just want this game to be over now. Every death feels unavoidable, and unlucky, like I just got trapped on an object or the dodge didn’t work properly. Every win feels empty because of this. It’s been like 10 hours of the same shit over and over, I just want to wrap the story up so I don’t have to suffer through this bullshit anymore.

If it wasn’t for this, the game would be a 10/10, and I was considering going for 100% in the beginning. Now, I don’t think I’ll touch this game again after finishing it.

Sorry for the rant.

It may have had a troubled production, but I don’t get the hate for this movie. I’ve seen it described as irredeemable, shallow, boring.

Were we watching the same movie? The opening sequences had intrigue, nice shot composition. They had the courage to kill off characters from the previous movie. The setting and prop design is relatively unique. Sigourney’s performance was strong, and her character had some interesting development without shoe-horning in some mother daughter relationship like in Aliens.

Why so hated?

What a cerebral, meticulously crafted experience. I’ve only ever gotten 2 platinums in my life, because they were phenomenal games, but this one makes me want to get another.

However, I was a tense mess throughout the whole ordeal, and I’m not sure if my heart can take another playthrough right now. I had to play the >!prison!< section in daylight with all lights on, and a podcast on in the background.

Does it get easier after the first time?

How about the original? Is it less stressful? I feel that the shorter play time would help a bit.
