Biracial baby named Malcolm?
My husband and I (Caucasian) are adopting a biracial boy at the end of this year. We love the name Malcolm. We have received some backlash about the name because they say “Malcolm X is not well remembered.” We don’t see a problem with using the name. We did not choose this name because of Malcolm X, we just like the name. We also feel like Malcolm X is not a horrible namesake, like some people might think.
Looking for opinions, especially from the black community. We don’t want to be “those” white parents raising a black child, if that makes sense.
editing to add
The backlash about Malcolm X is from family members, but it is more about his aggressive approach during the Civil Rights movement, as opposed to MLK’s peaceful approach. We agree that their stance on this is prejudiced.. we are working hard on setting firm boundaries with these family members and educating them on racism in all of it’s forms. We feel very prepared to handle this and stand with our son on these topics! :)
Thank you all for your answers!
