Gendered Uni Housing

Any advice on handling gendered dorms? I am a trans man studying abroad in Japan for a year this upcoming fall, and international exchange students are required to live on-campus in strictly gendered dormitories.

My sex marker on my documents are all Male, but as a rather busty pre-op guy, I rarely pass as cis in prolonged close-quarters living situations. Is it worth disclosing this status to university housing? There are communal dorms and individual dorms, however students do not get to choose selection.

Not looking to draw undue attention, but also not looking to make life harder than it has to be….

Curious about disconnect?

This is admittedly my first egg cleanse in a long time, but I haven’t seen such a total disconnect between what reaches down and what rises up before. The bottom is mostly rounded shapes, with one “spike” that rises an inch or so past the bulk of the egg, and is a few inches sideways from where the other spike at the top of the water reaches down. The water between is perfectly clear.

Notably, the spike reaching up has a perfect bubble suspended at the tip in the water. The egg also curiously clung straight to the side, despite the clear and clean glass.

The top has a teardrop shape over the yolk, and a triangle/spike a few inches over. My prompt was just checking in with the state of things before I move on to a new phase of general life. The teardrop I did interpret as the shadow of Grief that the month of May personally holds for me, as it is a week or two past the anniversary of when I lost my partner, and that has weighed a bit heavier this time of year.

The triangle on top, perhaps someone I had irritated nearby while helping out someone else, but who was unable to reach me? Or perhaps general adversity, present but not ruinous. I’m curious about the spike protruding from the white/clear part of the albumen, and the bubble atop as well. Perhaps someone or something adding its/their assistance to my protection? The odd larger bubble-like shapes in the white of the albumen do not replicate in the yellow tinted portion that surrounds the yolk, though that yellow does hold smaller air bubbles.

Thoughts?

Trans man studying/living for a year in Japan

I (ftm 23) will be studying for a full academic year in Japan at a university near Tokyo. While my gender is legally male, I’m noticeably pre-op, though pass as a cis man maybe 3/4 of the time depending on where in the USA I am. I’ve traveled to Japan briefly before, but was pretty focused on the event I was attending at the time, and am now looking at things to consider while living instead of just briefly visiting

Any tips on either what to expect while navigating male gender norms, or other things to be on the lookout for?

For my fellow trans folks living in Japan, how has it been navigating academic/workplace settings?

(Pre-emptively, yes, I do intend to avoid the onsens)

I have no intention of living as a woman while abroad, even at the cost of navigating some mutual discomfort.

(I already intend to avoid the Onsen’s)
