Bernardo is Mourinho's solution for the mid problem

Bernardo is Mourinho's solution for the mid problem

Bernardo played double pivot for the Pep, and it seems that he will play it here also. Our mids had problems with dropping deep for the ball and were not comfortable in tight space.

Bernardo is one of the smartest players today. He has everything that our mids lack and lacks everything that our mids have.

Bernardo is not a great defender due to a small frame, and he is not the fastest. But his positioning, feel, and reading is elite. He knows when to cover, and he understands when to bite opposition to certain spaces.

In an attack, he is comfortable to get the ball in any position on the pitch. He loves to bite pressing so he can create space to exploit. He is comfortable running from mid to any wing or even in central area and attack space like striker from shadow if he feels the space.

With existing elite physical players like Tchouameni, Valverde, and Jude, and while having three rockets in attack, Bernardo seems like a dream player. He is opposite from them as he doesn't have any physicality. On the other side all that they are missing, he has great pressing resistance, play on IQ rather physical attributes, and could roam around any part of the pitch to connect and exploit spaces.

Why so many fans are are calling Mourinho washed and downplaying heritage

Under his belt, Mourinho has every European trophy.

In all the top leagues that he coached, he won all trophies.

If he would join EPL today, he would have more trophies than the whole league coaches combined.

There are few coaches that have bigger success in late years, but also, these coaches did it with top conteder teams.

The last upsets that coaches made were Xabi at Neverkusen, Ranieri at Liecester (he was also washed at the time).

In modern CL, we have even fewer upsets where coaches did overperform with their squad:

  1. Porto (1:75) - Mourinho

  2. Chelsea (1:25) - Roberto Di Matteo

  3. Inter (1:16) - Mourinho

In the German league, we have Bayern as de facto winner with occasional contenders. In Premier League Pep dominated with City with a strong squad and tons of money with only a conteder in Klopp Liverpool. So we could say only Klopp and Pep would be calibre for seats (neither wants it).

At the world stage, there are De la Fuente, Mancini, Scaloni, and Deschampes with success. For Deschampes, I think he will be in the next consideration for his seat.

Besides these, we have Enrique, Inzaghi, and Zidane, who will take France. And Carlo, of course, if he would want to go inside clubs.

From talents, we have had Julian Nagelsmann, who choked at a bigger stage.

--

So, in conclusion, Xabi was the only one who we could hire that is "modern" and would join besides him only Jose is a high calibre coach. Xabi spell ended in the wrong manner, sadly.

Jose Mourinho was our only option, which would Perez trust. He has earned that with trophies and when he joined us for the first time. At that moment, Jose Mourinho was at absolute peak as he had 3 best spells, maybe in the history of football. He took Porto to the European crown, took Chelsea to a big club in England (failed CL), took Inter, and made it again CL upset. And Real at that time was exited 6 times in R16 in CL.

He had few bad spells for his high standard, but he was outside real conteder teams.

Does the last spell show that he is washed? He was 3rd in league and eliminated by us in CL. If we look, he had a weak squad. He was competitive with us in 3 games, in league he was unbeaten. He still has that inside himself as being unbeaten is tough. He is a coach who sets rock solid defence and makes a great transition.

What about low blocks, we struggle with that? Every club struggles with a low block. Once you take a lead, it is much easier. We need dribble, cross threat , outside shoot, and bring back ball to apply pressure again. Another side is that we need solid defence because if you get a goal easily, you struggle double time against low blocks.

Transfer windows so far?

It is easy to conclude that Jose Mourinho is in charge like no manager in 10 years. Right after him, we signed 3 defenders.

Cucu is great on the ball and monster in defence. Dumfries reminds me of Maicon to him at Inter, brute force. On both positions, we have another excellent player. For central, we have hired Konate. I am not sure fully sure about him, but it should be upgraded from the last season.

In mid, we hired Bernardo. That is an experienced creative mid that could fill many roles from organizing attacks to. He could play a deep role if needed or make a secondary outlet or even 10 if needed. He is a tactically proficient guy and man of the trust for Mourinho.

What we could expect more to come?

- high work rate winger that is good 1v1 - Diomonde?

- tall, strong, technical DM. (Motta, Matic) - Rodri? (Of course, one level above)

- striker option for crossing

- another central defender (deepends on Asencio, and will Tchouameni be seen also there as option)

In the end, sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe sh*t. No one could predict how the season would go. Right now, it seems like really great that we have a manager who is involved in the transfer so we can make some balanced squad. Heritage man found the biggest heritage in the world. And we are bringing some heritage players (3 players played CL finals, 1 WC winner)

Could Diomande be the key ingridient to Mourinho attacking team template?

Positions: LW/RW/ST*

Foot: Both

This hybrid type of winger is something like Dembele and enables many tactical variants. As winger is comfortable with both feet.

Benefits:

- could cover both wings

- could rotate in game position

- could be some sort of striker as Dembele in PSG

- could be used with overlap winger

- could be used with underlap winger

- younger winger that is not diva and will do any tactical thing to benefit system

- will track back in defence

- weapon for counter attacks as he could run behind, or he could run down flank and pass back to striker as he does not need to cut on steong foot

Cons:

- Lot of money for not (yet) world-class proven player.

- Young and might need time to adapt

We've seen that Olise is elite this season, and WC was incredible. Everyone would love to have such talent, but this might actually be more in line with what Mourinho wants. And Olise is not for sale right now. Diomande is an elite dribbler right now, crazy high %. He is still lacking G/A compared to Yamal, Olise, and he is slightly faster.
