To say this politely…(music)
Dear Event coordinators,
festivals, and amphitheater shows are all on the come up with summer right around the corner.
I have what maybe a controversial topic/ask: please stop booking the same tired ass cover bands for literally everything. I can think of two in particular that don’t need any more “exposure”. My god, if you have to use a cover band please pick someone else. We certainly do not have a lack of them around here.
(And of course if we want to go down this road there are more than just two that are overused. Believe me, I know it.)
If you can predict what a band is going to play next because theyve not changed their setlist for like…10 years….then its time to move on.
I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. It just feels like because they’re familiar and they have a trailer with their name on it, no one else gets the opportunity.
This, although not directly related, goes hand in hand with the fact that Legacy of Giving was built on the bones of SoHo, which was a strictly original music event that was overtaken by cover bands. There’s no middle ground. Its so strange.
Sincerely,
A retired live musician who has seen it happen for years.
Ps- this is not to say that I’m not pleasantly surprised with Levitt and the local acts theyve picked this year to support the main acts. No repeats and new blood!! Yay!
