WHAT IS THE HARDEST RETRO GAME OF ALL TIME?

What is your personal nightmare, not considering popular opinions?

For me it has been Shadow of the Beast II (Amiga) - the game is so full of traps, puzzle elements and trial-and-error design that developers had to take step back for the third game. I personally have beaten the game only thanks to save states. Few honorable mentions: Battletoads (NES, 1991), Silver Surfer (NES), Ghosts 'n Goblins (Arcade/NES), Contra 3 (SNES), Contra Hard Corps (Genesis), Comix Zone (Genesis, 1995), Ecco the Dolphin (Genesis), Nightmare Creatures (PS1)

How were your Arcade experiences in the 90s?

Where I’m from, arcades were always tucked away at the end of some dark alley or through an archway and down the stairs into a dim basement. We used to hide our money in the socks, because there were often punks hanging around the entrance looking to rip someone off.

We always carried notebooks with us, because once we got inside, there was much more to do than just play. We watched others, studied their moves, and wrote down exactly what they pressed so we could figure out how certain tricks or secrets were done. One of the best examples was the Mortal Kombat series, which was packed with secrets like no other game.

We also played a lot of Final Fight where characters looked bigger than life!

Did you also go to arcades in the 80s/90s? How was it?

No One Lives Forever is a stylish first-person shooter that blends fast-paced action with sharp humor and a distinctive 1960s spy-film aesthetic. Players step into the role of Cate Archer, an ex-cat burglar turned operative for UNITY, tasked with thwarting the plans of the villainous organization H.A.R.M. What sets the game apart is its mix of witty writing, stealth mechanics, and an impressive variety of missions that range from covert infiltration to chaotic firefights.

Unlike previous Rastan games that featured only Rastan himself, players can now choose to play as one of three different warriors: Rastan, Dewey (a hireling) or Sophia (a thief). Players must then fight their way through a multitude of enemy-packed levels set in a variety of different locations, such as castles, a forest, a swamp and on board a sinking ship. Certain levels also have the players riding on animals, such as horses and dragons.

One year has passed since the events of Streets of Rage. Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding return while the game introduces two new characters: Max "Thunder" Hatchet and Eddie "Skate" Hunter, the younger brother of Adam Hunter from the original game. A commercial and critical success, it is commonly regarded as the best entry in the series, the best beat 'em up game for the Mega Drive/Genesis and one of the greatest video games of all time.

Each fighter has different fighting styles. The game lists Adam as a boxer, Axel as a Martial Artist and Blaze as Judo for their fighting styles. There are several weapons in the game that you can use to even the odds. You can use a Glass Bottle, a Knife, a Lead Pipe, Baseball Bat, and Pepper Shaker. They can either be found on enemies except for the bosses or in a breakable object on the stage. Enjoy 2 players playthrough!
