On the Gurgler

Woke up last Wednesday and decided to tie some gurglers. Most of the bass in our river are tiny, but this one was big enough to hook up. I primarily fish for trout, but every time I hook up with a bass, I am reminded I should fish for them more often.

Back on the Bluelines

The season opener in Oregon let me get back to the type of fly fishing I love best, climbing mossy boulders with a light rod in the coast range looking for aggressive trout. Didn't see anyone for hours and caught enough fish to lose count.

For the most part, these cutthroats wanted nothing to do with anything but dry caddis patterns. The biggest of the day was caught with a soft hackle on a tenkara rod though.

SW Oregon Coast Range

Oregon's general trout season opened this weekend, so I got out to explore one of my favorite coast range rivers. Many eager and aggressive coastal cutthroat attacked every caddis pattern I put in front of them.

Unfortunately, the river is almost as low as it was at the end of last summer.
