72/40

72/40

I learned this evening that the 72/40s with this keyway are significantly easier than the other ones. I’ve had one of the other ones for a few weeks and I keep coming back to it in and among others, but haven’t managed to get an open yet. I recently got six of these, keyed differently, and popped all six this evening without breaking a sweat!

I also learned that they, like the 1100, don’t turn once you’ve unlocked them until you up the tension considerably! I unlocked two of them without realizing it at first.

Abus C83 (old green belt variant) picked

This thing along with some Basi orange euro cylinders, has been giving me fits. I still haven’t picked the orange belt lock but I managed to pick my first euro cylinder!

Picked with a Reaper TOK turner in .040” and a u/The-Real-Dmac custom pick I won in one of his monthly giveaways. Now on to the blue belt variant!

Freebies!

I ordered a six-pack of 71/40 locks off of eBay. Sadly I received a six-pack of 72/40s. Good locks, and probably more expensive than what I ordered, but it wasn’t what I wanted. So I reached out to the seller and to their credit I got a refund quickly.

A couple days later and I hadn’t heard about returning the locks so I dropped a note to the seller and they got back to me saying keep ‘em!

So I got half a dozen free 72/40s!

Edit: Sorry for anyone who thought I was trying to get rid of these. No, I was just bragging about getting some free locks. Totally my mistake and poor wording!

Pretty much all the Chubb Battleships I've seen photos of have "Chubb London" cast on the front, and the date code stamped on the back. I know the ones made by Union have "Battleship" cast on the front. I've never seen a picture of one that only had "Chubb" until I saw this one on eBay. Can anyone shed any light?

A second ERA 975 (the body is 65mm wide) with interesting bitting. And two Belfry locks. The rounded one is 68mm, the Squire clone is 40mm. All three with pins in the keyway so pipe keys.

Popped the ERA (it was *much* easier than the other one I have!), working on the larger Belfry. The smaller Belfry I’ll have to sacrifice a key to make a tensioner.
