Warlock - to multiclass or no?
For context, I usually play Artificers or Sorcerers. Never played a Warlock before and also never multi-classed before (aside from a 1-shot) so no idea if this is a good idea.
I currently have a level 5 Earth Genasi Genie Warlock (Dao). I am considering multi-classing into Eloquence Bard for 3 levels after reaching Warlock level 6 then go back to Warlock for the rest of the build. Problem is, I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Current stats:
8 Str
12 Dex
15 Con
10 Int
14 Wis
20 Cha
Started with Magic Initiate (Cleric) from my background and took Fey Touched at level 4 so I have a boat load of spells at my disposal (many of which are 1/LR or at-will through invocations) and my go-to strat is basically an aoe (spike growth for now) and EB enemies in/out of it - the good ol' cheese grater tactic.
Now, the main purpose of Eloquence Bard is the social aspect (Silver Tongue), although the extra spells and slots and Unsettling Words doesn't hurt because, in the campaign I'm in we're moving toward more of a political intrigue (we're positioning ourselves for a coup) so I feel like having Jack of All Trades, bardic inspiration and that min 10 on a Deception or Persuasion rolls would be extremely valuable, along with access to more spells I'd find useful that I don't have to worry about pact slots when I use them.
Here's the problem though, the more I look at it and the more I look into Bard/Warlock multi-classing, the more I get the impression that you're usually better to grab 2-3 levels of Warlock and go Bard the rest of the way.
So I guess the main question is do I just stick with Warlock and grab feats like Skilled/Skill expert/Actor to boost the skill check reliability and just deal with the lack of extra spells and slots; or will taking 3 levels of bard actually be worth the trade off in the long run?
