the housing at this school…

housing and facilities you will be dealt with. lying and trolling me and my roommates over $7259 dorm rooms. these photos were from a “move in ready” dorm and were called “minor flaws” when some of them are literally virginia code violations 😭😭😭 i just do not get this school… i cc’d one of the higher ups in my long back and forth email chain they basically told me screw off and keep contacting/“working” with the guy who has lied to me many times about this stuff being fixed…. i get facilities if busy and there’s a lot but they told me everything was move in ready when there’s a hole in my wall THAT THEY PUT THERE. i’m exhausted with this and just need people to see these photos and know that living on campus is the most hit or miss ever and if it’s a miss you will not get any actual remorse or rectification from housing!
(also after a few emails back and forth, they did put a vent cover on that one spot. BUT it is bent and banged up!!)
update (8/19): everything has finally been addressed and the room is TRULY move in ready now. 3 days after the date they said everything would be ready (8/16)!!!

i'm so confused...

i live on campus and have for 3 of my 4 years at GMU. yes, it is obviously a commuter school but that doesn't change that fact that so many on campus students genuinely seem to have no interest in making friends or getting involved... yes there aren't as many things on campus during the weekend. but i'm more stumped by the fact that on campus student's love to complain about how hell the social life is while they make no attempts to befriend their roommates or make new friends beyond the few they already have...

TWO YEARS in a row me and my friends have tried to befriend our fourth roommate. this year we have gotten a little better reception than last years girl who COMPLETELY ignored even our most basic logistical questions (i.e."do you have an est. for when yall moving in? don't wanna step on toes!"). but it's just exhausting trying to get to know ppl who genuinely seem to have no interest in knowing the people they will share a home with for seven plus months...??? trust me i get people have fears and i know ppl are messed up socially bc of so many things in our generation: the pandemic, social media, etc. but it gets to a point, at least in my opinion... i am pretty damn shy too and i don't do amazing when it comes to following up with new people. BUT! are roommates not important ppl to get to know, become friends, or acquaintances with..?? i guess the people i am getting to live with don't think so? or maybe they don't care enough? side note: apathy is a disease! start caring!!!!

obviously this is just me ranting out of frustration because once again i was excited to try and make a new friend or even acquaintance. but now... i feel dejected and fearful that i'm gonna end up going through hell again and basically living with an unknown variable. and i promise you there was genuinely nothing that any of us have done wrong in our interactions with her. we've shared stuff about ourselves but not in a self interested way, always asking about her in return, while truly listening and receiving. we've let her know we have a bunch of stuff from our apartment last year we'd love to share so she doesn't have to spend $$$$$ on the same stuff. we've invited her to play some games we share interest in, with no expectation that she'll say yes, play for a long time, or want to ever play again. we also are going out of our way to find an armchair for our living room because it only has enough comfortable seating for three people and wanted to have a comfy space for all four of us to hang out in ;;-;;

anyways i'm done lol. this was original a journal/personal blog entry but i decided to edit it and post it here bc i'm genuinely curious if this is just a GMU problem? is it just me and my friends? is it nationwide...? god forbid global... idek people are a mystery...
