How common are course registration overrides?

ENGH 302 - Multidisciplinary, Transfer

I have emailed all the professor under "Multidisciplinary" on 3rd of August and currently my outlook is silent.

Not a big deal overall; could take it in Spring, just would've like to take 5 courses instead of just 4.

  • Also on GMU's Scholarship website, is it pretty uncommon to get chosen or selected - just have to get lucky?

I am so done with spending money left & right

College already costs a kidney, and here i am paying for 3 diff textbooks in an ART class when I’m literally a MIS major dude….. not to mention the excel add ins that doubled in price the past year and other useless stuff they want us to spend money on, don’t even get me started on the Parking Permit every semester , when I go to campus 3 times MAX each week..

And after all this, it isn’t even guaranteed to get an entry level job unless youre extremely extroverted, rich or ur dad “knows a guy”

Honestly, If I wasn’t already a senior, I would say that going to college isn’t worth it these days.

the housing at this school…

housing and facilities you will be dealt with. lying and trolling me and my roommates over $7259 dorm rooms. these photos were from a “move in ready” dorm and were called “minor flaws” when some of them are literally virginia code violations 😭😭😭 i just do not get this school… i cc’d one of the higher ups in my long back and forth email chain they basically told me screw off and keep contacting/“working” with the guy who has lied to me many times about this stuff being fixed…. i get facilities if busy and there’s a lot but they told me everything was move in ready when there’s a hole in my wall THAT THEY PUT THERE. i’m exhausted with this and just need people to see these photos and know that living on campus is the most hit or miss ever and if it’s a miss you will not get any actual remorse or rectification from housing!
(also after a few emails back and forth, they did put a vent cover on that one spot. BUT it is bent and banged up!!)
update (8/19): everything has finally been addressed and the room is TRULY move in ready now. 3 days after the date they said everything would be ready (8/16)!!!

If anyone can lmk where I can be in the know about these things, please feel free to reply in the comments. Student account services

I got royally fucked over by SAS due to multiple clerical errors they have made and until they fix it I will go without health insurance, no money for rent and no money to pay my credit card bill. My student loans were supposed to disburse about 5 days ago, but instead it is going towards tuition that I do not owe.

In the process of bitching about this with other GMU students I have heard accounts of multiple students becoming homeless as a result of similar "clerical errors" made by the student account services staff. I have heard people talk about how they have sent bills that have already been paid to collections, damaging credit reports. Disabled people losing health care because SAS is run by toddlers? I guess my question is, how do these fucking people still have jobs?

stomach hurt

I'm an incoming freshman and I went on orientation today (long story but I had to reschedule it oof)

Dude. My stomach is lowkey killing me, like I'm in so much pain right now it's insane.

I thought about what I had eaten and I'm dying here in my bathroom at 6 in the morning.

Has anyone else experienced this after eating Ike's

I really hope this is a me issue..

I had the pork loin, mac and cheese and green beans.

The pork was dry asf, and I ate most of the mac and cheese and all of the green beans.

And to be completely honest with you guys, I have a small stomach eat small snacks and I basically eat 2 meals a day and I'm completely fine! Usually- but I'm honestly convinced it was the pork or something.

Idk I went to sleep and I woke up in extreme pain, and now I'm writing this.

Lmk your experiences..!

How do LAs get paid

I heard that it isn't taxed because its considered a scholarship or something? Does that mean it gets automatically applied to my tuition or am I pocketing the ~$14 an hour?

Animal Shelter Org

Hey! I’m interested in joining/starting an org this fall and wanted to see if anyone knows of similar existing organizations- or, if not, whether there’d be interest in starting one.

I love volunteering at animal shelters, but my usual shelter is pretty far from campus, and I’d love to get involved locally again. I imagine there are other students in a similar situation, so I thought it could be nice to create a group that makes volunteering at local shelters more accessible while giving back to the community. It would also be a fun way to connect with others who enjoy working with animals. Some ideas could include carpooling/ride shares to shelters, fundraisers, and promoting or partnering with local shelters for volunteer events and other activities.

Let me know if anyone knows of an existing org like this or if you’d be interested in joining one! If there’s enough interest, I’d be happy to start a discord/group chat and see where it goes. Thanks 😼

Rate my schedule?

For context, i prefer morning classes, waking up anytime past 8am makes me feel like i’ve wasted the whole day. I’m a freshmen majoring in engineering, was wondering if this was good for first semester? I had some credits transfer over from DE classes so i replaced some classes with others. (also do yall count recitations and labs as actual classes or just study periods and time to ask questions? I dont see why i need a whole lecture based on a class i already have to take? Enlighten me)

How should I treat each class

Hey everyone! I am a little nervous about this upcoming semester and am just wondering how cooked I am. FNAN 303, BUS 310, MKTG 303, BULE 303, and BUS 303 are the courses I am taking. How should I balance each one, and which are the extremely hard courses?

Any good 3rd spaces?

I’m new to the area and am wondering where everyone goes to just hang out when they have time? Where are the spots to be and where to avoid? Bonus points for gardening spots.

Dana Siller - eating in class?

I'm going to have my first evening class and I'm just curious about Prof. Siller's policies on eating in class? It's a 4:30 - 7:10 class so there's quite a bit of time in class lol. Does anyone know if he has a break in the middle there where I could eat something or should I just bring small snacks to eat a bigger meal later? Thank you!

i'm so confused...

i live on campus and have for 3 of my 4 years at GMU. yes, it is obviously a commuter school but that doesn't change that fact that so many on campus students genuinely seem to have no interest in making friends or getting involved... yes there aren't as many things on campus during the weekend. but i'm more stumped by the fact that on campus student's love to complain about how hell the social life is while they make no attempts to befriend their roommates or make new friends beyond the few they already have...

TWO YEARS in a row me and my friends have tried to befriend our fourth roommate. this year we have gotten a little better reception than last years girl who COMPLETELY ignored even our most basic logistical questions (i.e."do you have an est. for when yall moving in? don't wanna step on toes!"). but it's just exhausting trying to get to know ppl who genuinely seem to have no interest in knowing the people they will share a home with for seven plus months...??? trust me i get people have fears and i know ppl are messed up socially bc of so many things in our generation: the pandemic, social media, etc. but it gets to a point, at least in my opinion... i am pretty damn shy too and i don't do amazing when it comes to following up with new people. BUT! are roommates not important ppl to get to know, become friends, or acquaintances with..?? i guess the people i am getting to live with don't think so? or maybe they don't care enough? side note: apathy is a disease! start caring!!!!

obviously this is just me ranting out of frustration because once again i was excited to try and make a new friend or even acquaintance. but now... i feel dejected and fearful that i'm gonna end up going through hell again and basically living with an unknown variable. and i promise you there was genuinely nothing that any of us have done wrong in our interactions with her. we've shared stuff about ourselves but not in a self interested way, always asking about her in return, while truly listening and receiving. we've let her know we have a bunch of stuff from our apartment last year we'd love to share so she doesn't have to spend $$$$$ on the same stuff. we've invited her to play some games we share interest in, with no expectation that she'll say yes, play for a long time, or want to ever play again. we also are going out of our way to find an armchair for our living room because it only has enough comfortable seating for three people and wanted to have a comfy space for all four of us to hang out in ;;-;;

anyways i'm done lol. this was original a journal/personal blog entry but i decided to edit it and post it here bc i'm genuinely curious if this is just a GMU problem? is it just me and my friends? is it nationwide...? god forbid global... idek people are a mystery...
