I am so confused and behind

I'm an incoming freshman for the fall, and I'm already so confused at everything. I'm in the honors college and a few weeks ago I kept calling GMU because I wasn't sure if I was going to register for classes in June or beforehand, because I had heard honors college gets priority. Then multiple people told me I would do it on the 22nd, on the zoom orientation. Now I have been emailed that it opened yesterday for honors college. I am also doing the global gateway program, and am very confused and nervous that something isn't going to work out with that for my clases and schedule. I have no idea what I'm doing, I have no idea who my advisor or advisors are, and everyone I call seems to send me to someone else, and then they send me to someone else, and so on. I have gotten into an RLC and have confirmed my roommate, I have a major, but other than that I am so lost and I feel so stupid lol.

Advice on purchasing text book

I am taking Marketing 303 summer asynchronous with professor Niki Vlastara. We are supposed to read like 4 chapters in like 5 days and exams are not open book.
She has uploaded power points of the chapters on canvas and comparing with the book seems to be a summary from the book ( what’s on the PP is taken from the book).
I am trying to save money and wanted to ask if anyone who has taken this class with professor Vlastara recommends to still purchase the book, or if studying from the power points should be enough/ok?

Note: we are not doing smart book or assignments through McGrahill.

Also any advise or tips to success on this class are welcome :)
I have a full time job so I’m trying to make this less stressful as possible!

full lecture but seats in recitation

Hi, I’m looking at phys 160 classes to register for and this section is the only one without a time clash for me. I’m wondering why it says the lecture is full but there’s open recitation seats which ik are linked, and no waitlist option. never seen this before…anyone else experienced this!?

CS 310 Summer with Russell

Hi! I was just wondering if anyone has taken CS 310 with Russell before in the summer or regular school time. What was the class like? I heard she can be snarky but I'm more concerned on if she is fair for quizzes, exams, and projects. Thanks!

Student was told to leave the arena during business school graduation, for raising the flag of HIS country.

Shameless … I was there for my cousin’s graduation and the dude got kicked out because he represented HIS OWN COUNTRY. Nearly the whole arena cheered for him, and I did too. But they didn’t like it so they told him to leave.. “land of the free” ha!

(Guess which country it is because apparently this sub also doesn’t let people post about it..)

Edit: for all you guys defending the situation and saying there’s a rule that prohibits students from raising a large flag on stage. Nice, now on Saturday in one of the graduating colleges another student raised a Ukrainian flag and he didn’t get kicked out.. hope this helps

Edit 2: the number of clowns in here just shows how brainwashed and low iq majority of this country is. Crazy tbh

🚀 Starting a New Software Engineering Organization at GMU — Looking for Founding Members

I’m currently building a new student organization focused on learning software engineering through real collaborative projects and modern engineering workflows.

The goal is to bridge the gap between classroom programming and how software is actually built in real engineering environments.

This is NOT just:
• a lecture club
• a LeetCode club
• random coding sessions

The vision is to create a collaborative engineering environment where students can:
• work on real projects together
• learn Git/GitHub workflows
• gain frontend/backend experience
• understand deployment & infrastructure
• practice teamwork and collaboration
• build portfolio-ready systems
• simulate real software engineering workflows in a beginner-friendly way

Some example project ideas:
• Study Group Finder
• Degree Planner / Dashboard
• Real-time applications
• Full-stack web systems

Currently looking for:
• Founding members
• Experienced Programmers (Juniors / Seniors) who might need experience
• People interested in backend/frontend/devops/design
• Beginners willing to learn
• Anyone interested in building and growing something long-term

Important:
You do NOT need to already be experienced. The organization is intended to be beginner-friendly and growth-oriented. The pilot semester will focus on simplified workflows and learning collaboratively step-by-step.

Right now I’m organizing:
• club structure
• semester workflow
• project planning
• onboarding documents
• engineering processes

If you’re interested in helping build this from the ground up, feel free to join the discord:

GMU I/O Masters Online

Hello! I’m a 25 year old in CA looking into getting my MS in I/O Psychology while working full time with a long LA commute. Does anybody have experience with this school’s online I/O program or online I/O programs in general?

I already have my BA in Psych and currently work in case management for individuals with developmental disabilities. I/O is really the only grad path that interests me, but I’m nervous about investing the time and money if the opportunities aren’t actually there. My main concerns are networking in an online program, whether 18 months is too short, and what careers/salary growth realistically look like after graduating.

If anyone has built a career with an online I/O degree, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience and whether you feel it was worth it.

CEHD graduation speaker was a joke

For some reason, the guest speaker at our graduation was Edward Kwartler, the managing director for some AI company. This is the College of Education and Human Development.

Not only was he the wrong choice, but his speech was terrible. Strangely patronizing and admonishing at the same time. And he kept mentioning how he didn't get into Harvard.

Our student speaker had the only good speech of the whole ceremony.

Mispronounced names at CEHD graduation

At the CEHD graduation did anyone catch the name mispronunciations? Like “jack-uh-Lin” was pronounced “jay-quell-in”. Like the Jordan Peele skit. I believe there were more but I didn’t catch them.

Was it poor phonetic spelling, or ignorance on the announcer’s part?

Grading is 👎🏻 in Sciences

Why are known weed out courses no longer graded on a 10 point scale. Mason isn’t known for its strength in certain departments- of which most freshman learn AFTER they join *unfortunately (yes I feel deceived by admissions). Why is it ok to make a course score to pass with an A a 94% when most kids barely pull a passing grade- And why do professors think it’s OK to grade down in order to keep a barely passing median? It’s frankly 💩 and explains the low graduating GPA in science based curriculum.

Just graduated NOVA. I’m trying to master python this summer. I have decent knowledge in data structures and OOP, what other topics should I learn over the summer to not fall behind when I start my junior year? Other than python I only know java, should I learn any other languages
