2023 Kia Niro EV — why so many headlight/lamp replacements in the service history?
Hi everyone,
I recently bought a 2023 Kia Niro EV 150 kW / 204 hp Long Range (64 kWh) with around 172,500 km (107,000 miles).
I bought it from a fleet/auction company for €8,595.
The car will be used by my wife, who will drive around 20 km per day, mostly in the city. I also have solar panels at home and essentially free charging, so the running cost should be extremely low.
I have the complete maintenance history from the previous fleet operator, and something really caught my attention.
The car has had a surprisingly high number of exterior lighting/headlight interventions:
Several bulb replacements during 2023–2025
July 2025: 2 headlights replaced
January 2026: 2 headlights replaced
March 2026: 1 headlight replaced
May 2026: 2 headlights replaced
So, according to the history, that's 7 headlight assemblies replaced, plus numerous bulb replacements.
The car was apparently used as a professional security vehicle, so I'm wondering whether some of these replacements could simply have been due to physical damage rather than an electrical problem.
Has anyone with a 2023 Niro EV experienced repeated headlight/bulb failures?
Could this be related to:
faulty bulb connectors/sockets?
wiring/electrical issues?
moisture/condensation?
a known issue with the halogen headlights?
or is this simply unusually bad luck / fleet usage?
I'd particularly like to hear from anyone who has had multiple headlights replaced, rather than just a single bulb failure.
Thanks!
