What is the funky smell from a fresh wound?
Sorry if this is the wrong sub, but it looks like I should be within the rules to ask this.
I recently milled off my fingernail, and while not a fun time, I went to the ER after urgent care turned me away and got a few stitches, still some pain but healing up nicely. After the bleeding stopped, there was this weird smell I remembered from another time I cut my hand. It is almost sweet, but also disgusting at the same time. For reference, both cuts required stitches and according to the docs were close to tendon in one case and bone in the other, about 1/4 inch deep.
Im wondering, what causes that smell? Its not the smell of infection, as it's definitely from my body, and while the smell itself isn't bad, it has some sort of innate repulsiveness. I think that's because my brain knows its human flesh smell. I've tried looking it up, and can only find info about infections and such. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!
