“Qadduka al-Mayyas” is one of the most famous traditional songs from Aleppo, popularized across the Arab world by the legendary Syrian singer Sabah Fakhri.

The song belongs to a musical tradition known as Qudud Halabiya, a genre deeply rooted in Aleppo’s centuries-old musical culture. Many of these melodies trace their origins back to the Andalusian muwashshah tradition that flourished in Muslim Spain (Al-Andalus) before traveling eastward through North Africa and the Ottoman world, eventually finding a new home in Aleppo.

In that sense, the melody’s journey mirrors the movement of culture itself: from Andalusia to the Levant, then across modern cities like Istanbul and Athens, carried by memory, migration, and music.

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth published an analysis expressing Israel’s growing concern over Syria’s emergence from international isolation and its transformation into a promising destination for investment.

The report adds that Syria’s sudden return to global finance and energy markets represents a historic turning point for the country, and that Western nations are increasingly placing their bets on President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

According to the newspaper, the progress Syria has made is intensifying the “risks” Israel believes it faces, arguing that the international opening toward Syria does not align with Israeli interests or its stated security concerns.
