I love my Taylor Freelance backstrap on my P10F. I purchased a cheap aluminum no name magwell to try and dremmel to fit. Anyone have any tips/videos on it, other than go slow and take off a little at a time? I know it would likely be easier to dremmel the backstrap but I’d rather mess up the $20 magwell than the $80 backstrap. TIA.
My father in law has an old model single six, never converted, that has sat in a safe for decades. It was not maintained, had some surface rust and some real light pitting on places. Still very functional. He brought it over and I’m cleaning it up for him. I stripped it down and got the rust off, ordered a few pieces of hardware (I of course lost the pawl plunger immediately) and a new set of Altamont grips, as his were splitting around the ferrule inside. I would love to touch up a few areas with bluing but never attempted before. I read that the factory bluing is more durable than cold bluing, so I don’t really want to strip it off. Considering getting some Perma blue for touch ups, but concerned about messing up something I know is fairly hard to come by. Any tips or should I just clean, oil, and leave well enough alone? He said he doesn’t care, as he’s happy it’s getting some attention and he’s going to will it to me anyway.
