TIL that Mayon will be direct on the path of Solar eclipse in 2042

On Apr 19 or 20, 2042 magkakaron ng total solar eclipse mismo dito sa Pilipinas. I was just browsing the predictions website and I notice that its going to pass through Mayon Volcano. Ngayon pa lang naiimagine ko na ang ganda siguro ng pics na lalabas sa araw na yun. Can't wait to see it, kung buhay pa ako by then hahaha.

Pax Silica can be beneficial for the Philippines provided Data Centers are not part of the deal

Semicon has a complex value chain. So it starts with chip design then raw mineral extraction and silicon smelting, then lithography machines, then fabs, then assembly and testing, then integration to data centers. Not every stage has the same value add and same water and electricity usage.

Currently Philippines is invovled in Assembly & Testing which employs the most people but also the lowest value add. Also it has the lowest water and energy usage. The current plan I see calls for expansion ng assembly and testing as well as for stage 2 to happen here: mineral extraction and silicon smelting. Eto relatively mid in water and energy usage but mining is harmful for the environment. I think would still be economically beneficial to Philippines to start exploring other level in value chain we can realistically do, provided mining is done with minimal damage to environment. We are mining mineral here anyway might as well get the most out of it.

Ang hindi lang malinaw is if data centers will also be built here. Some say yes some say not, I havent seen a clear indication to which way this gonna go. This is the most disastrous to us as its the stage that eats most of the electricity and water, also the most polluting. Tapos this also employs the least people. If the deal REQUIRES that data centers will be built here then government should not sign on it. Pero if hindi naman then its better for us overall.
