Teacher turned case manager?

Hello,
I’m currently a teacher (finished my 13th year) and I’m considering moving into geriatric care. My own parents are aging and I see the huge gap in care and guides for families. Anyone here a former teacher? Would you hesitate to recommend going a getting a Masters in SW? I ask because I don’t want to assume the grass is greener. I know you all have insane workloads.

Pets: how do you manage

Just wanted to ask people’s experiences with pets. I have a 5 year old and I’d like to get him a pet but I’m worried about care and cost. Probably will do it later but I was wondering how yall manage with the hours of work, children and caring for a pet. I erroneously thought a guinea pig would be less stress than a dog but after looking into, guinea pigs are pretty costly.

Ideas/advice (elderly parents)

I know this isn’t necessarily professionally related to teaching abroad but I wanted to get people’s input/experience on what your life has been like with working/living abroad and aging parents. I’m from the States and the system here isn’t really geared towards helping our elderly (unless you’re indiscriminately wealthy or planned really well).

English teacher (single mom)

I’d like to move to China with my son, but one thing that really concerns me is what would happen to my son if god forbid, something bad happened to me (accident, disease) and he’s on his own. Would it be hard to get him back to the States to his grandparents?

Update: Just wanted to thank everything who has given input. It’s really appreciated.
