Quick follow-up to my previous post about the recruitment numbers and regional expansion:

We now have official validation on the expansion front. Vijayant Kumar Verma (CGM at SEBI) confirmed on LinkedIn that SEBI’s new Chandigarh Local Office was inaugurated on October 5 by Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey (screenshot attached).

Key takeaways from the update:

• More offices confirmed: This is the first of several planned local offices. The post explicitly notes that more branches are coming to other cities soon, per the SEBI Board's decision (aligning with the earlier mention of setups like Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, and Bhubaneswar).
• Staffing & Vacancies: The mandate for these local offices includes investor grievance redressal, financial literacy, and local market engagement (SMEs, municipal bonds, SSEs). Setting up and running these regional nodes directly backs up why additional posts beyond the initial ~70 could be sanctioned.
• Recruitment Status: While the physical rollout is actively moving, the recruitment notification itself remains tied to Chairman sign-off and subsequent Board reviews, so the expected timeline/delay discussed earlier still stands.

Good sign that the structural expansion is real hopefully translates into a healthier final vacancy count once the notification drops.
