Has anyone ever demonstrated a working VIC-20 upgrade "VIC-40" 40-column version of using the 6562/6563?

The 6562/6563 were upgraded versions of the VIC providing the same 320x200 resolution as the C64's VIC-II 6566/6567, minus the sprites of course.

It had been designed as a "drop-in" upgrade to the VIC-20 to increase screen resolution

Apparently only working samples were ever produced and it never went into production.

This can't be connected, can it? First reboot after online install of nVidia 610 driver, RAM won't post at overclock, and can't boot to desktop.

System has been working flawlessly since the 5090 install over a year ago.

MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus DDR4-4000 1.4V 32GBx2 5800x3D MSI RTX 5090

This is the order of symptoms and operations:

  1. Have been using the computer normally over the past weeks
  2. Saw there was a 610 release of nVidia driver
  3. Used nVidia all to do online install replacing previous 596 driver
  4. Install was successful
  5. Played a games for about 30 minutes
  6. Game crashed to desktop
  7. On restarting game, screen went black with "Your computer has experienced an error and will restart"
  8. PC rebooted to Windows PIN screen
  9. Entered PIN, screen went black with "Your computer has experienced an error and will restart"
  10. PC failed to post with RAM configuration error, said "overclock failed, restarting with defaults"
  11. Confirmed in BIOS that RAM was now set to 2666 at 1.2~V
  12. PC rebooted to Windows PIN screen
  13. Entered PIN, screen went black with "Your computer has experienced an error and will restart"
  14. Cycled the reboot process a few times, always getting an error after entering PIN
  15. Rebooted to Safe Mode
  16. Did clean install of previous nVidia 596 driver
  17. PC rebooted to Windows PIN screen
  18. Entered PIN, and Windows started normally.

I've been using the PC for about an hour now with no apparent issues.

Goal:

I'd like to revisit the memory settings due to the performance impact of dropping from 4000 to 2666, but I want to avoid getting into a several-hour session of fiddling with BIOS settings until I better understand what might have happened.

Questions:

  1. If it were a memory error, why did it only first appear immediately after installing the new driver
  2. Why could it boot to the Windows PIN screen but no further, while 610 was installed.
  3. If it were a memory error, why did installing the earlier 596 driver version fix Windows launch

Response to subreddit note:

• What's the issue?
After installation of new nVidia driver, Windows would not boot and my motherboard reported memory errors

• What steps have you taken to try and correct the issue?
Dropped the memory to default speeds and re-installed earlier version of nVidia driver

• If the issue became present after making a recent change to your PC, what change(s) did you make?
Only change prior to issue was installation of 610 nVidia driver

NVIDIA and NVIDIA Corporation ProgramData folders have over 360,000 .log files totalling 29GB! I deleted them, but how to prevent it!?

For the past year or so I've been constantly running out of disk space on my C: and even uninstalling applications and deleting personal files yet the free space kept shrinking.

I wasn't able to find where all the space was going until I found the hidden ProgramData folder and saw that the NVIDIA folders were over 40GB in size, which is crazy for just a video driver, NVidia App, and NVidia Broadcast (installed but not running).

Between the two top-level folders and various subfolders, there were a total of more than 360,000 *.log files totaling 29.5GB.

After deleting all the log files, those folders are only about 12GB, which still seems high but maybe it's for the shader cache etc.?

What causes these log files to be written?
Can the logging be turned off?
Is there some way to automatically clean them?

(Windows Disk Cleanup doesn't find them even when you check the box to delete log files, so it seems not to be looking in that folder.)
