Confirm Species

Seller wasn’t sure of the species. Wanted to confirm it.

It looks like an Ecuadorian to me; but I’m new to this and know nothing.

Tank Setup Check

Kids bought 4 crabs from a beach shop in June. Shop owner came out and explained care requirements. She sounded like she knew what she was talking about. She sold us two mesh cages with water bowls and sent us on our way.

Lost two crabs within two weeks. I started doing research on care and quickly realized that the beach shop lady either knew nothing or was intentionally not interested in providing proper instructions.

My kids were upset and I felt the need to ensure we didn’t lose the other two crabs. I put together a tank about 3 weeks ago and moved the crabs into it. One crab burrowed on the first night and is yet to surface. The other crab barely moved and would just stay in cover. A few days ago I found it out of its shell - it passed a few hours later. I’m guessing it was stressed from improper care and wasn’t able to recover.

I finished the last tank setup items and just picked up two crabs. These crabs are already far more active than the crabs from the beach.

I just wanted to check and make sure I wasn’t missing anything.

Tank is at 80F/83% humidity.

Three bowls containing green sand, worm castings, and crushed oyster shells.

Water tanks with bubblers.

Premade food jars from Etsy on the way.

Overhead light on a 12 hour timer.

I do need more shells. Any suggestions on where to purchased them?

Is this Greensand safe?

Putting together our first tank. Kids got crabs on a beach trip. Turns out the care instructions from the shop were less than adequate. Anyhow, the crabitat is nearly complete.

Is this Greensand safe for crab consumption? The stuff on Etsy seems expensive.
