Make sure to say NO to EPAP on your out-the-door price
You’ll notice a benign line item on your out-the-door price sheet that varies in price. Today, when I closed my deal, an $899 EPAP charge was added without any discussion about its purpose.
This is a “protective spray applied to your interior at the Kia factory” that’s expected to be charged by the dealer. Request the removal of the charge, but be prepared for resistance. This may impact other aspects of your deal, such as the trade-in value or the dealer discount. Once the sheet hits the finance manager’s desk, it’s too late.
In short, I was aware of the potential issue. Avoid signing or shaking on the deal with the EPAP charge on the itemized sheet. Doing so might lead to a guilt trip and potentially jeopardize the entire deal. Stay firm and don’t hesitate to walk away if necessary.
