Target Price: 26 Sportage FWD SX-Prestige

Looking to buy a 26 Sportage FWD SX Prestige for my daughter. MSRP is $38,770 and the dealer website shows a dealer discount of $1,578, a KFA Dealer Choice Program discount of $2,000 and a document fee of $225. I will be doing the 0%/48 months financing, so I don't believe I can get that $2000 discount

What should be my target sale price for this vehicle? I'm interested in what others have paid for this before TT&L. I'm in South Texas. Thanks.

[Warning to all Kia owners] Kia removed rear seatbelt pretensioners for Taiwan market. 5★ car became 2★ death trap. Is your country next?

This isn't just a "Taiwan problem". This is a warning for any Kia owner worldwide.

  1. The Core Fact: KIA Lied in Advertising

KIA and their dealers marketed the Sportage in Taiwan using Euro NCAP 5-star results. The ads, the showroom posters, the sales pitch were all "5-star safety."

Taiwan NCAP tested the actual car sold in Taiwan in 2026. Result: 2 stars. The rear passenger neck injury score was 0.00 out of 8.00.

The reason: KIA Taiwan removed the rear seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters. These are standard on the 5-star Euro version. They cost-cut them out for our market.

  1. Why This Should Terrify You, Even If You Don't Live in Taiwan

If you own a Sportage in the US, EU, or Australia: Check your rear seat specs. KIA has proven they will remove critical safety hardware for different markets. You might have the same cost-cut version and not know it.

If you were considering buying a KIA: This is the company’s ethics. They will advertise global 5-star results while delivering a different, cheaper, less safe car to you. If they lie about safety, what else will they lie about?

If you think "this is just Taiwan": This is how it starts. Automakers test which markets will tolerate cost-cutting on safety. If Taiwan accepts it, your country is next.

  1. This Isn't About "Lemon Cars"

Forget the Lemon Law. That’s for cars that break down and can't be fixed. This car isn’t broken. It was delivered exactly as KIA intended: missing safety parts.

This is about "Major Defect" under Civil Code 354 and "False Advertising" under Consumer Protection Act 22. You were sold a 5-star car. You received a 2-star car. The law says you can void the contract and get a full refund, plus punitive damages up to 3x.

  1. What KIA Must Do Now

Stop using Euro NCAP 5-star ads immediately. That’s false advertising, period.

Offer a full buyback for all 2022-2024 Sportage owners in Taiwan. We paid for 5-star safety. We got 2-star.

Retrofit rear pretensioners and load limiters for free, or be banned from claiming any NCAP rating in marketing.

Bottom Line

You can criticize my formatting. I don't care. You already admitted you don't disagree with the premise.

The premise is: KIA advertised 5-star safety and delivered a 2-star car by removing rear pretensioners.

That is the only thing that matters. Everything else is noise.

So the question for KIA and anyone defending them is simple: 5-star ads, 2-star car. True or false?

update:

The difference between Ar4m and Aer4mp is important.

Based on Taiwanese automotive media reports, Aer4mp indicates a three-point seatbelt equipped with a pretensioner, while Ar4m indicates a three-point seatbelt without a pretensioner. The key letter is “p,” which stands for Pretensioner.

A pretensioner is not a cosmetic feature. It is a crash-safety device that tightens the belt against the occupant’s body during certain collisions, helping reduce slack and better control occupant movement. Kia’s own manual describes the retractor pretensioner as a system designed to make the shoulder belt fit tightly against the occupant’s upper body in certain crashes.

So the issue is simple:

Aer4mp = rear seatbelt with pretensioner
Ar4m = rear seatbelt without pretensioner

If the Taiwan-spec Sportage rear seatbelt is marked Ar4m, while other market versions or 5-star NCAP-related versions use Aer4mp, then this is a real safety-equipment difference, not just a wording issue.

OTD price for 2026 Sportage SX Prestiege Hybrid

Is $45K too high for the SX Prestige Hybrid in Texas? A dealer is quoting me this price, and I’d like some perspective before I decide.

Husband/Wife drivers and the Kia Access App

Okay, this is driving me bonkers. What is the correct setup for two drivers of the same car in this app?

The account is in my name/email. The dealership said to just have my wife log into the app as me, but then it seemed to possibly conflict with the concept of the User Profiles and such. There is some mention that the key used gets tied to the User Profile to know which profile to load automatically each entry.

It would be a bummer if, every time my wife uses her phone to get in, that it automatically loads my profile.

So I had her create her own Access account and linked to the vehicle. It then complains that she is not the owner, so I make her a secondary driver. That seems to work, but then she cannot create her own key. I have to Share a key with her and it seems that's MY key and thus, I'm again likely what the system sees as the person entering the car.

This should not be this complicated.

Kia Access "New Digital Features" Notification?

I have a 2026 Kia Sportage EX.

A few days ago, the infotainment system installed an over-the-air (OTA) update while the vehicle was parked. I didn't catch the release notes, so I have no idea what the update actually changed.

Then today I received a notification from the Kia Access app that said:

"Personalize Your Kia with exciting new Digital Features and Services."

When I tapped the notification, it just opened the Kia Access app, and I couldn't find anything new or different.

Has anyone else received this update and notification?

- Did the OTA update actually add any new features?

- Was the Kia Access notification just advertising paid services, or did it correspond to something that changed in the vehicle?

- Is there somewhere I can view the release notes after the update has already been installed?

I'd appreciate hearing what others have found, if anything.

Looking for opinions on the European Kia Sportage 1.6 T-GDI HEV 6AT AWD GT-Line (Romanian market)

Hi everyone!

Lately I've been thinking about replacing my current car, and I've been looking at a few different models. One of them is the European-Romanian Kia Sportage 1.6 T-GDI HEV 6AT AWD GT-Line.

I've already visited a dealership and taken it for a test drive, and my first impression was very positive. My main issue is that most of the reviews I can find are from the UK or the US, and from what I understand, those versions differ quite a bit from the European model.

Are there any current or former owners of this specific version here? If so, I'd really appreciate your feedback:

  • What do you like most about the car?
  • What don't you like, or what do you think could be improved?
  • What's your real-world fuel economy like, both in the city and on highways/long trips?
  • Roughly how much do you pay for comprehensive insurance (CASCO/equivalent), and what insured value is it based on?
  • How well does Kia Connect work in Romania? Are all the features available, and is it reliable?
  • Is the electronically controlled/adaptive suspension (Sport ECS) worth getting, or is it more of a gimmick? Would you choose it again?
  • Have you experienced any issues with the panoramic sunroof (rattles, leaks, getting stuck, etc.)?
  • Have you encountered any reliability issues or other things that a prospective buyer should know about?

I know there are plenty of competitors in this segment, but the Sportage has really caught my attention thanks to its design, features, and overall package.

I'd really appreciate any long-term ownership experiences or advice. Thanks in advance!

advice for family/city car

have been driving a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. LOVED it.

we need a new car. we don’t drive very often, not very much daily. a few times a month we’ll drive an hour or so out, a few times a year a longer road trip.

need room for a car seat (or two) and someone to sit comfortably in the back with the baby. need room for the stroller+groceries in the trunk and then occasionally the stroller + the family’s luggage.

looking for something safe and reliable that could last us at least 10 years. not too worried about tech or “driving experience” beyond that. although a power liftgate sounds pretty nice.

open to all kinds of options - rav4, kia sportage gas or hybrid, vw tiguan, mazda cx50, subaru outback?

thank you for your help

Watch Your KIA Svc Dept!!

I HATE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS!! That is why I have been doing all maintenance and repairs (that I can do) on all my vehicles for 45 yrs. Too many horror stories and shoddy work. I let our KIA dealer do the first free oil/filter change 6 mos ago, 4K mi. on our ‘25 Sportage SX-P and today rolled under there to do my own oil change and was surprised with Both service covers on the belly pan missing. No, they didnt fall off. No, there have been no impacts with anything underneath the car. Bubba in the oil rack didnt put them back on!! So now I have to go convince the dealer they screwed up and to replace them. I know theyre gonna complain it’s been 6 mos. Are we supposed to check that every piece, part, nut and bolt was reinstalled every time we take in our car?? This isn’t gonna be pretty. I’m gonna wait a couple days to cool off because I’m livid right now.

Oil catch can install on 2026 Sportage PHEV

I just installed an Evil Energy oil catch can on my PHEV, and thought I'd share in case it might help others. The same location and bracket would likely work as well for the HEV. In this location, the bottom of the catch can is easily removed to be emptied. (It helps to remove the catch can's dipstick first.)

I made the bracket from a piece of 1.5x1.5 inch aluminum square tubing that I had lying around from an old fencing job. Most of the work was done with a portable bandsaw, and that certainly would've been good enough. But I have a milling machine so I used it to clean up and square the cut edges.

I didn't want to change any factory parts, but in the end I decided to trim away about an inch of the soundproofing foam under the "Hybrid" engine cover. This wasn't strictly necessary, but trimming the foam allowed me to route the hoses a little further to the driver's side to make checking the oil level easy. (Without trimming, the hoses would have to route further to the passenger side, covering that dipstick a little -- though it would still be possible to check the level.)

Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHGZ7DR4

Note that I used two existing bolt holes for the mount. One (holding a clamp for a coolant hose) had an 8mm bolt and the other (holding the coolant tank) had a 6mm bolt. I changed both of them for slightly longer ones to accommodate the bracket.

These holes are unfortunately not on the same plane. The coolant tank one is about 3/8 inch higher than the other. So the bracket is "stepped" accordingly, and I used a spacer under it to take up the space for the passenger-side bolt.

The only tricky part was in determining where exactly to drill the two holes for those bolts. I used a 6mm transfer screw to mark the coolant tank bolt location. But because of the step-down, my 8mm transfer screw was too short to contact and mark the underside. So I cut the head off another 8mm bolt and sharpened it to a point in my lathe to act as a poor-man's transfer screw. With both points marked, I drilled the holes to 6.5mm and 8.5mm.

The can is far enough (about 3/4 inch) from the engine to allow for engine movement, and yet the hoses are kept as short as practical. The hose that came with the Evil Energy kit is good quality and the correct 3/8 ID size for this. For the hose end that connects to the PVC valve in the valve cover, I used a heat gun to get it quite hot so that I could coerce a slight pre-bend in it to get it pointing towards the catch can, so that it doesn't put undue stress on the plastic PVC valve hose barb.

Hope this helps someone.

Update: In another forum, I was informed by u/mudboggin3 that this new Smartstream 1.6T engine has an air/oil separator built into the valve cover innards -- before the PVC valve. I did some Googling (that I ought to have done before this OCC work) and he's right. And others who have installed an OCC on these engines are getting NOTHING in their catch cans after 1000s of miles. So dang, it may have been a waste of time and money. I'm going to leave mine on anyway and see for myself if it collects anything. I'm still of the opinion that it can't HURT to have it inline and MAY have some benefit.

Tire integrity?

Just bought a new 2026 Kia Sportage PHEV X-Line from a dealer about couple of weeks ago. When I started driving to home from the dealership, I did notice that tire pressure was 47 PSI (cold) which seemed very strange. But I have never owned a car with 19 inch wheels, so I thought this was the norm.

After driving the car for 250 miles over these last 2 weeks (mixed city/highway, low speeds, highway speeds), Kia Access app started showing red alert for tire pressure yesterday.

I checked on the driver door jamb (as I freaking should have done on day ONE), and the recommended PSI is 35 as usual for any other wheel! Tire even says "DO NOT FILL OVER 40" ... And I was driving around with 47 COLD PSI!! Which means it must have gone way over 50 PSI many times!! I am lucky nothing got blown off!

I have now set it to 35 PSI, Kia app is green. But I am very worried that tire integrity may be compromised at this time? I have texted the dealer contact about this and asking for new tires, but I doubt I will hear back or get new tires from them.

Visually, the tires look OK to me (but who am I to say anything). Is there a way to ensure tires are still "good" and will last me years without the risk of blowing up on highway and/or in summers?

Side bumpers to hopefully protect from (more!) door dings

I've been careful about parking my new car in the far corners of parking lots, and getting some needed exercise walking into stores. But the last time out, there was only one spot available, between two other cars. It was a nice wide spot so I thought "no problem".

Upon arriving home, my wife noticed a fairly substantial "ding" right on the beltline of the passenger-side door. From the depth and violence of it, there's no way that it was done accidentally. The a-hole parked to the right must've slammed his door open to hit it, in a "I hate your shiny new car 'coz I can't afford one" attitude.

The next day, I installed a VIOFO A229 Pro dashcam with hardwire kit so it can do parking monitoring. I'd already had it on order before the "incident" but it arrived a day too late to catch the action.

And yesterday, I added some hard rubber side bumpers, following the belt line "crease". These cover up the door ding and I hope might prevent or minimize a future one. I just thought I'd share a picture. I wasn't sure that I'd like the look but it's grown on me. Makes the car look a little bit more rugged. My wife also likes the look.

They were fairly easy to install. The hardest part was in having to remove the ceramic coating that I'd applied the day after getting the car home from the dealership, as the two-sided adhesive strip on the back of the bumpers won't stick to ceramic coat. So I had to use a small buffing wheel and some polishing compound to mechanically remove it along a 2-inch-wide area there, apply the bumpers, and then re-apply the ceramic coating in that area.

Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Z2X5KFT I bought the 1-inch wide glossy black. Note that when you cut it, it exposes a dark grey underneath. I used some black fingernail polish to paint the exposed edges.

Updated to add: It's not obvious from the photo, but when sticking them on, I followed the belt line crease, with the top of the bumper a consistent 1/8 inch under the crease. The bumpers stick out just a little further than the crease. And I shaped the ends into what I think is an attractive non-symmetrical "point". I made a simple paper template so that I could make all four of the points identical (or mirrored as appropriate). After cutting with scissors, I used my belt sander to make these edges (and other cut edges) perfectly smooth before painting them black.

Driver 1 & 2 buttons and User Profiles

I THINK I may have had a misconception and wanted to make sure I get this correctly:

My wife and I each have Infotainment User Profiles in each of our names. We also have our desired seat setup and mirrors, etc., tied to a specific Driver button on the driver door.

Are these things mutually exclusive or tied together? I ASSUMED Driver 1 was tied to Profile 1 and Driver 2 would be tied to Profile 2 (and any beyond that are just not tied to a button), but now I'm thinking these two things have nothing to do with each other.

So, if my wife gets in the car after I'm in it, do I understand that even those her User Profile will get loaded (because her phone unlocked the door), that she will need to hit her physical Driver button to get the seats/mirrors the way she wants?

I'm a bit confused by this because when I switch User Profiles, the seats and mirrors DO move. Oddly confusing for what it is.

First Oil Change

2026 SX Prestige Hybrid. I’m approaching 1000 miles. I’ve driven it about 80% expressways so far, but in the future it will be about 60/40 city.

What’s your take on that first early oil change?

From what I’ve researched a lot of experienced mechanics recommend it.
