Moving family to St Gallen

Hi everyone! We’re moving our family of 4 with 2 kids aged 2 years and 2 months from Zurich to St Gallen. I work in Liechtenstein and my wife is in education so it seems like a good fit. We’ve loved St Gallen when we came for day trips but we don’t know much beyond that so we’re not sure what to make of the flats we’ve seen.

St Georgen and Rotmonten always come up as the best 2 areas for young families but there are barely any listings. Langgasse/ Heiligkreuz is the only one that comes up as “bad”, but the flat we’ve liked the most so far is in the upper part of that area, right by the woods, it seems quiet and there’s a lot of greenery which is nice but we still don’t really know if it’s the best place to raise kids.

We also don’t know about schools and figuring out which are best.

Would take any help and suggestions, thank you so much!

Non-lottery residence permits

I found that a small number of residence permits are awarded to EEA citizens outside of the lottery system, but cannot find any information about the process to apply. I was also told that my family situation could be seen positively.

I have worked in Liechtenstein for 3 years and with two young children under the age of 2, the commute from Zurich doesn’t work anymore. We have applied through the lottery but had no luck in the first round. We’re looking into St Gallen as a most likely option but obviously Liechtenstein would be amazing for work, for the kids, and for finances too.

Does anyone know where I can find further information?

Thank you!
