Advanced Care Paramedic Student in Canada, AMA

Hey guys! I have about 4 years of experience working as a primary care paramedic (PCP) and am currently back in school for my advanced care license. While I won't give out any specifics regarding region or program for anonymity sake, all other questions are fair game. Hoping I could help some people interesting in making the PCP-ACP jump, or just anyone interested in Canadian paramedicine as a whole.

Zero to Hero

I've been a primary care medic in Canada for a little over two years now and am currently in school for my advanced care tag while still working on the trucks FT (it's a PT course). With the way the program is set up, I'll be about 4.5/5 years out by the time I get my tag and I've had an ACP partner the entire time I've worked.

To me, this feels totally fine. I don't feel like I'm in over my head and I'm not struggling with the program at all. But I've heard a whole lot of "zero to hero" talk since I've taken this on. A lot of people (interestingly, all primary care medics) say that medics should be out for "at least 5 or even 10 years" before making the move from PCP to ACP which to me, sounds a bit silly.

I'm just wondering what the general consensus is (outside of my immediate area) on medics going from BLS to ALS? Do you think there's a minimum amount of time that should be required?
