Volanti 911 - Gamma Killer? Nah.

Volanti 911 - Gamma Killer? Nah.

I recently got the Volanti 911 and was very excited cuz of the reviews, the looks, the tech, all of it. After a men's league game and a pickup run, I've had just about enough time to say I'm very..... whelmed.

To be clear, these are still very nice shoes, nothing against a first time basketball shoe by a brand usually churning out track shoes, it was just definitely over hyped and as a result, missed the mark from an expectations standpoint.

As background, I'm 5'10, 180 lbs, 3 & D guard with a pretty decent first step against closeouts. Nothing too shifty, just straight line speed. My current rotation is the JB3, JB4, WOW 12, Lining Liren 6v2 and the Yushuai 20. I also have had gammas previously but wore them into the ground.

So here is my review:

Fit and containment: I went TTS, and the fit is pretty decent. I ended up swapping the insoles for a move game day pro, and the fit was still great. The containment of the top materials was not fantastic tho. I need to really crank the laces and I think I'm gonna end up swapping those out too. The fit itself is good, but the lockdown was subpar. I found myself retightening the shoes over and over.

Cushion: The stock insoles were kinda flimsy imo, and the regular cushion is plush without being mushy, so it was more comfortable once I swapped the insoles.

Traction: Elite. Minor dust pickup on the men's league floor but no wiping needed. Regular gym was clean so nothing to complain about. Stops on a dime and is just about as close to the elite traction of the gammas.

Imo, this will probably end up in the top 3 of my rotation, behind the jb3 and the wow 12, but only cuz I have issues with my other 3 pairs atm. It's not the gamma killer people seem to make it out to be, but def worth what I paid, which was about 137 off of tiktok shop.

Weird Pain in JB4

Finally got these off Amazon after I accrued enough points and saw a sale. Wore em for the first time yesterday and mostly loved them. I think the jb3 with move insoles were better than these stock but I did end up leaving with some weird mild pain right under the ankle bone. I also had to use a runners knot on these to secure lockdown while I break em in.

Did anyone else have that weird pain under their ankles or is this more a me problem 😭

Anta Shockwave 8 Pro

Does anyone have any reviews on these? I've scoured the reddit for em but haven't seen anything and was wondering if anyone knows if these are good or not.

For reference I am 5'9, 180. Play as a 3&D player that likes to attack off hard closeouts so I need some good bite to use my limited athletic ability. I have slightly wide feet but nothing too crazy, size 10 tts but I like a little bit roomier toe box.

I currently rock the JB3, liren 6v2, wow 12 and yushuai 20s but trying to replace my too big yushuais with something more fitting. Need to know how the traction, cushion and lockdown specifically compare. Thank you!

Current Shoe Rotation

For reference, I'm 33, 180 lbs, about 5'9, a 3p shooter who likes to attack off the catch. Not a shifty type player, but has decent first step burst for those super hard closeouts. I'm a natural size 10 but have slightly wider feet and my right foot for whatever reason is also slightly longer lol

Previous favorite shoes: WOW 10, Gamma 1s, Crazy Explosive Primeknit, Anta Kai 1, Anta Shockwave 5 Pro

From the left, counter-clockwise:

WOW 12 Cotton Candy size 10

Easily the best looking of the bunch imo. Also the most comfortable by far.

Fit: I originally had the size 10.5 but had to return them cuz they were slightly too long and my foot would slide in them just enough to bother my lifelong shin splints. I don't like super tight lacing so I need my shoes to fit nicely enough that it's not too tight but also won't slide. The sock like upper is a tad tight at first but after a short 30 min break-in session I was able to play in these with no discomfort.

Traction: I used to have the dlo colorway with the solid forefoot outsole and those gave me a ton of traction issues, none of which I had with these translucent colorways, so some of y'all mightve seen me heavily endorsing this colorway for the traction improvements. Comfort: EASILY the best of the 4. Not even close. With how hit or miss the traction was, I still kept wearing em simply for how nice the comfort was for me. So much so that I wish it was full GCU so that I can eliminate the need for a rotation at all and just go all wow 12.

Overall: I would say I still love my old wow 10s ever so slightly better but a solid 8.5/10

JB3 size 10

Fit: i usually size up 10.5 for most my previous pairs of shoes, but these are HUGE. Even with 10 there's a roomy toe box and sometimes I feel a little loose in them so I had to get antislip laces just to make sure it's tight enough. It's super wide foot friendly, so much so that my other friend had to get them a half size down cuz he has narrow feet.

Traction: Holy hell people were right about this shoe. It only took about an hour for me to break in, with some people saying longer for them, but the grip is fantastic. I wouldn't say it's tacky or that it particularly pops out at you, like the gammas or wow 10 did at first, but I don't think I've ever slipped in these. They're just so reliable and you're always able to stop on a dime and feel secure.

Comfort: I had to swap out the insoles for the move game day pro. The regular insoles are just so ass in these, but after swap, it was super comfortable. Not particularly low to the ground, but good enough court feel for someone who likes to be able to have burst to attack a hard closeout and still get enough spring to stop and pull up when the big rotates over.

Overall: This is my game day shoe. Only shoe I wear to men's league cuz I need something super reliable and comfortable that I don't need to even think about what's on my feet. 9.5/10

LiNing Yushuai 20 Forbidden City size 10.5

Fit: Sigh. I want to love this shoe. I really do. But the sizing just doesn't work for me and I can't exchange or return. I bought my previous 2 shoes via Amazon so returns worked out for me but one of my best friends recommended this to me cuz he loved it so much but it's just ever so slightly too wide. These feel super wide foot friendly and I think TTS works for most.

Traction: This is what initially got me to buy these. If you want tackiness and that feeling of being able to brake with ZERO sliding, these are for you. They're even better than the JB3, which is a super high bar. I never had a shoe thats been this good on any surface or dust level. Some courts I even have to wipe for jb3, I don't with these.

Comfort: I think this is where I went wrong. This specific colorway is a special edition and that made the materials kind of stiff. I'm thinking this is what's causing my fit issues since it's hard to crank the laces down in the mid foot. The cushion is fine the court feel is fine and some other people who have tried my shoes on loved how it felt, but for me everything is just "fine". It's a tad clunkier and heavier than all my other shoes but super stable and I feel like I would never roll an ankle in these.

Overall: I wish I could try em in a different colorway or size but these remain in my rotation as a pair I try to break in for the first game or 2 for pickup in hopes of getting the laces to be able to really crank down and secure my foot. 6.5/10.

Liren 6v2 size 10

Fit: These are narrow and long. I had them in 10.5 but returned them to get 10 cuz the .5 size up felt like 1.5 sizes up. These size 10s are longer than my 10.5 shoes. They're not so narrow like the liren 4v2s, where I can't even play in a full size up cuz it pinched my mid foot so bad, but it still took me a full 2 sessions to break em in enough that I don't go home limping.

Traction: Tuff Rubber is solid. These are far better than whatever rubber was in the forefoot of the DLo colorway WOW 12, and grip most courts great. Dustier courts require some wiping but I have virtually no issues with traction on these.

Comfort: I would highly recommend wide footers to stay away simply for the fit and how much my feet kind of hang over the edge of the inside of the shoe. I'm not so wide footed that I only get wide foot friendly shoes, but my foot still kinda feels like it's bulging out the side of the shoe a bit, almost like a muffin top but for shoes instead of pants. Otherwise the cushioning is great and the materials are breathable and nice.

Overall: I like this shoe. I wish it fit better but I play in these about as much as my wow 12s which is a decent amount. 8/10

This is my first review and rotation post so hopefully I didn't bombard y'all with too much but I'm willing to answer any questions!

Insoles in Lining Liren 6v2

Has anyone tried insoles in these? I got them half a size up and returned them since they were too long but when I got em tts, the mid foot hurts just a tad. Might keep breaking em in to see if it gets better but was curious whether some thin insoles would help with my mid foot.

Edit: also if anyone has a good pair of socks to recommend as well that would be appreciated. I currently use stance and the Nike elite socks but both just aren't doing it for me
