Dell Inspiron 3891 - "Hot Rod"

Hello, all!

I've already posted this elsewhere, but I somehow just discovered this subreddit, so I decided to show it off here.

Background:

I obtained this Dell Inspiron 3891 from my partner while cleaning out the last things from her old room to put away or take to our new place. She was planning to either put it away in storage or just get rid of it, as she hadn't used pretty much since we had gotten together 2 years ago. It wasn't a spec to write home about, but I was in need of a replacement for my dying Surface Book 3 and my already-dead Xbox One, both of which had used for freelance graphic design/3D modeling alongside MBA course work and light gaming respectively. I had never even touched PC building before then, so I took this as a challenge to try and make a solid runner out of a frankly cruddy office desktop.

With all this said, here are the specs it had...

───────────────────

CPU: Intel Core i5-10400

GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630 (Integrated)

RAM: 12GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz (8GB + 4GB)

Storage: 256GB NVMe 2230 SSD + 1TB SATA HDD

PSU: Dell OEM 260W

───────────────────

And, here are the specs now...

───────────────────

CPU: Intel Core i7-11700F

GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5060 OC 8GB (Low-Profile)

RAM: 32GB Micron Crucial Pro DDR4 @ 2933MHz (x2 16GB)

Storage: 2TB WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe 2280 SSD (1TB SATA HDD retained + Dell OEM SD Card Daughterboard)

PSU: Dell OEM 500W Platinum (5K7J8)

Cooling: Noctua NH-D9L CPU Cooler + NF-A8 80mm PWM Fans (Intake & Exhaust) + Be Quiet! MC1 M.2 SSD Heatsink

───────────────────

It took quite a lot of research, trial, and error to get to the point am now with this desktop, but I am quite proud of it. I'm now able to play most everything at 1080p on high/ultra settings without it breaking a sweat. Plus, Adobe programs and Autodesk Fusion haven't lagged or stuttered once since all this, so l'd say that's a victory in my book lol.

Hope you all enjoyed this little glossover! I'm very proud of what I've accomplished on my first go, and hope can do more in the future! Any suggestions you all may have are also welcome. (:

First PC Build - Dell Inspiron 3891 "Sleeper"

Hello, all!

I know this isn't the traditional sort of post, but I wanted to show off my first PC "build". I put build in quotations because well... It's a bit unorthodox.

Background:

I obtained this Dell Inspiron 3891 from my partner while cleaning out the last things from her old room to put away or take to our new place. She was planning to either put it away in storage or just get rid of it, as she hadn't used it almost since we had gotten together 2 years prior. So, I took it as a challenge to try and make a solid runner out of a frankly cruddy office desktop, having had no real experience with PC building prior.

With all this said, here are the specs it had...

CPU: Intel Core i5-10400

GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630 (Integrated)

RAM: 12GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz (8GB + 4GB)

Storage: 256GB NVMe 2230 SSD + 1TB SATA HDD

PSU: Dell OEM 260W

RAM: 32GB Micron Crucial Pro DDR4 @ 2933MHz (x2 16GB)

Storage: 2TB WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe 2280 SSD (1TB SATA HDD retained + New SD Card Daughterboard)

PSU: Dell OEM 500W Silver (5K7J8)

Cooling: Noctua NH-D9L CPU Cooler + NF-A8 80mm PWM Fans (Intake + Exhaust)

It took quite a lot of research, trial, and error to get to the point I am now with this desktop, but I am quite proud of it. Hope you all enjoyed this little glossover, I'm very proud of what I've accomplished on my first go, and hope I can do more in the future, perhaps a from-scratch build! Any suggestions you all may have are also welcome. (:

Forza Horizon 6 in 1080p 60FPS: Is an RTX 3050 LP 6GB Good Enough or do I Upgrade?

Hello, everyone!

I'm looking for some advice regarding a PC I just finished upgrading. I obtained a Dell Inspiron 3891 from my girlfriend, and I upgraded much of the internals; I use it currently to work on MBA schoolwork as well as freelance graphic design/3D modeling, but also am intending to replace my old, broken Xbox One.

On top of moving over some of my older games like Forza 7 and some COD titles, I would like to also play the new Forza Horizon 6, specifically at 1080p and a stable 60FPS, ideally at High/Ultra settings if possible. I'm not a heavy gamer, but I would still like to have an enjoyable experience when I do play.

Current Specs:

• CPU: Intel Core i7 11th-Gen (11700F)

• GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 3050 LP - 6GB GDDR6

• RAM: 32GB DDR4

• Storage: 2TB NVMe SSD + 1TB SATA

• Monitor: 1080p 90hz

I have upgraded the PSU to an OEM Dell Silver 500W variant as opposed to the stock 260W unit; Dells are notorious for not playing nicely with aftermarket PSUs, but I'm working with what I have, of course. The current graphics card is powered solely through the PCIe port, though the PSU has hookups for external power, thus leading to what I am considering.

I am looking to possibly upgrade to an RTX 5060 LP with 8GB VRAM, and I have to ask if  that would be a good upgrade for what I am trying to accomplish. If the 3050 that's in it now would suffice, I'll keep chugging along; I do plan to upgrade my monitor at some point to a couple of nicer ones though, leaving me possibly wanting some headroom to play at 1440p/4K. Should I upgrade the GPU, or would I be fine with what I have now?

Thank you for all the help in advance! I will admit, I'm pretty new to PC gaming, so this is definitely a bit foreign to me in some instances.
