Got the field shooting setup pretty much settled

Only thing that would be kinda funky for most people is the chest rig with comms, but considering I'm using this to run and coordinate our field class it makes sense for me

Who all is headed to the Gas Gun match in Piru on the 12th?

It's a good event, solid blend of speed and accuracy, usually 6-8 stages but they go by pretty quick, and enough divisions so that everyone can play (I bring a different upper than pictured and shoot Tac Light). Registration is on Practiscore, come out and play with us.

(Before anyone has an aneurysm that rifle as pictured has a single-shot sled installed internally)

Our next Field Class registration is live!

As featured in Recoil magazine, welcome to both gas and bolt guns alike! Put your shooting skills and equipment to the test in the real world on a 3 mile long field course through the Los Olivos hills, engaging targets using rocks, trees, tripods and backpacks with a target selection from 250-1,650 yards. This event is one that anyone serious about their shooting simply should not miss!

Day 1

External ballistics lecture

Proper utilization of ballistic calculator

Wind theory

Technique

Rifle zeroing/zero confirmation

Day 2

7am start

3 mile long semi-strenuous hike with multiple shooting/target positions

Positional shooting where gear is limited to what’s on your back

Target range estimation

Shots from 250-1200 yards through the Los Olivos hills

Participants should bring 150 rounds of ammo for both days, a ballistic calculator app (Applied Ballistics is preferred), sturdy hiking gear (footwear, clothes, sun protection, water, poles if needed) and a reliable way to carry their rifle (sling, backpack, etc). Water will be provided on day one, and will be placed along the course on day two but it’s recommended to bring some of your own as well as any food/snacks you may need. Email with specific class information as well as meeting locations will be sent out to all participants a couple weeks before class start.

Old horn above Santa Barbara CA

Anyone know what kind of Longlines presence was in this area, if any?

I'd say myself and this rifle have been quite the pair lately

Yeah I'm bragging, deal with it. Or better yet, come out to a match!

Had to stage up the Stacatto lineup at the local FFL

All there for various different reasons. I'm not a 100% Stacatto fanboy, but I do have a soft spot for 1911/2011s

Won the NRL-Style match today in Piru

This event is awesome for both people on the PRS side (as you can see there's a division for your heavy ass PRS guns) and people with factory hunting style rifles. Low round count (maximum 36 for this course of fire) and what I thought were generous par times. Every stage was blind, so you had to find, range, and engage on the clock. Any gear allowed provided it was on your person when your time started. Mild pace for the day but we still had pretty much all the shooting wrapped up by 2pm-ish

Feeling nostalgic about the now-closed back ranges in SLO...

And how absolutely stupid it is that they're shut down. I've been able to visit once since the shutdown, but it's falling into disrepair pretty quickly

Go shoot competitions, it'll make you a better shooter

Went to Gunsite in AZ this weekend and brought home a little wall art at the Dual Platform Sniper Challenge. It was very clear that competing in PRS, Gas Gun, and field style events had a direct and obvious influence on my performance. If you've got more than just a passing interest in firearms and want to truly improve and not just turn money into smoke and noise every weekend, go compete.

New scope day is always a good day

Even better when it shows up days before it was supposed to, which means it immediately gets mounted and zeroed and taken to a match this weekend

We're doing it again, 2gun class on a private range in Los Olivos on Father's Day.

We're doing it again, 2gun class on a private range in Los Olivos on Father's Day. This curriculum is built to address the most common issues I've observed and corrected from over a decade of experience and hundreds of shooters throughout the country, and I give an additional crash course on positional carbine shooting with rifle targets to 350yds. More info/registration is on my site www.southcoastlonggunner.com

Some gear selection/thoughts on the CA TTG Skirmishes

This isn't by any means an outright criticism of the event, it's just some food for thought. Personally I think it's good to have a competition that pushes back on you a bit, and never thought I'd encourage any of you to go attend one. Awesome group, well run.

Answering the caliber question for the Gold State Mile, easily the #1 question about the event I've had so far

Much easier to talk this through a little bit in video format than it is to type my thumbs into arthritis. But if you have any follow-up questions, feel free

Yesterday's Socal Tactical Games Skirmish recap

I told myself I was undecided if I'd shoot another one of these events, but here we are. Didn't just take the win in Men's Intermediate, but took the overall win as well so I guess it all worked out. It's refreshing to see something new come to CA, and I enjoy events that push me outside my comfort zone and there's no shortage of that here. Farthest targets were C zone steel at 165yds off the pictured tank traps, but only after doing 22cals (for my division) off of a weird overhead rope pull resistance machine thing I'd never seen before. Once again, absolutely the most amount of outward support and encouragement I've ever witnessed in a competition, there's zero complaints on it being an amazing group. My physical state is lacking but the shooting skill pulled it through. Anyone who spends any time in both a gym and the range needs to hit this up, you won't regret it. I think they have two more events scheduled for this year. I've made a couple videos on it, just need to edit and I'll put them up here too if anyone is interested

Not long ago I threw out that I'd hold a mile shoot if the demand was there, and I got more positive feedback for long range shooting on this sub than I ever have before, so here it is. We got dates approved on a private ranch in Los Olivos, and are even going to structure day 1 as an optional (likely recommended) class for those who need it. All you guys who went out and bought .338 Lapuas that have been kinda collecting dust since then? This is your chance to actually bring them out and make them work for you. On the low end of the caliber spectrum, yes .308 will do it but it won't be easy, 6.5/6 Creedmoor will have much better chances and we'll accept anything UP TO calibers in the .338 Lapua/.338 Norma realm. Anything larger than that, you've gotta talk to me about it first. Anyways registration is live on my site www.southcoastlonggunner.com and follow along on Instagram for updates @southcoast_longgunner
