Visiting next week (Aug 16–22) with kids — rain in the forecast. How is the park on a rainy day?

Hi everyone! We're visiting EuropaPark next week with young kids, and the forecast shows thunderstorms/rain on several days (especially Sunday and Tuesday) now that the heat wave is breaking.

A few questions for the experts here:

  1. How much of the park is actually enjoyable for young kids in rain? Which indoor rides/areas would you prioritize?

  2. Do outdoor coasters and water rides shut down during thunderstorms, and how quickly do they reopen after?

  3. Is it true that rainy days mean noticeably shorter queues, or has that changed?

  4. Any rainy-day tips? ponchos vs umbrellas, best areas to shelter, etc.?

Thanks a lot — first visit for the kids and we want to get it right! 🎢

Black Forest with kids Aug 16–22 — how seriously should I take the rain forecast?

Hi everyone! We're a family with young kids visiting the Freiburg / Black Forest area from Aug 16–22 (staying near Freiburg, planning Europa-Park, Titisee, Schauinsland, Steinwasen Park, and a day trip to Colmar).

The forecast currently shows the heat wave breaking on our arrival weekend, then ~24–26°C with rain/thunderstorm chances of 50–80% on several days.

Questions for locals:

  1. How reliable are these forecasts for the Black Forest? Do the summer thunderstorms usually mean short afternoon storms, or full washed-out days?

  2. Is there a weather app/site locals actually trust for the region (Kachelmann, DWD, something else)?

  3. Any tips for Europa-Park on a rainy day — worth it or skip?

  4. Any indoor gems with kids we might be missing beyond Rulantica, Badeparadies?

Thanks a lot — any local insight is appreciated!
