I got a bit bored the other day and wanted to create a way to keep my domes in tip top condition... so i present to you.... my dome storage tray!
So i have been teasing this for a while now and thought it was time to share some nicer photos of this board (not just on my desk)
2005 HHKB Professional 1 with hand crafted Kangaroo leather wrapped keycaps BNIB (apart from testing function and photos)
It cost me a lot, it took a lot of effort to find its history but worth it.
**AI 'slop' now removed and original rambling is back**
It's seldom the right thing comes along at the right time and this was the wrong thing at the wrong time but..... i did it anyway. I havent actually seen any KB01 in person so when this came up despite it's battered and questionable condition i had to buy it.
But...
This is what I love about keyboards and especially the ones I own. I often see people with new boards and all shiny shimmery nice stuff but much like my Pro 1, I would worry if i could use it or not.
That's the shame about my Pro 1, It has a story but it hasnt really lived. This is really on the other extreme.
I read on the PFU site about the saddle theory, Being a horse owner i can relate. I have kit in our tack room older than this board and when looked after propperly it's going to keep going for many more years.
Treating these boards with love whilst really using them can add character. Give it life and really give the hardware chance to live it's life rather than being a show piece.
Heck i still wear my dad's Casio F91-W watch and get comments about it more often than i would have thought.
One of my friends asked if i was going to try to restore it and remove the yellowing... Personally i like it. I like the age, I like the destress. I like something having history. Some may like the shiny (don't get me wrong I do too) but perhaps some things are supposed to be 'inperfect?'
Some of you know i am making a little collection, Having sold two of my spare HHKB Pro2 i had has allowed me to aquire this board (and some other bits in life) The board will now be joining my collection as the oldest member. For anyone interested here is my 'archive' - https://codeberg.org/Dev01-D/Keyboards
Happy Hacking.
Been considering selling this one to be honest. It's an amazing board but i have used it once to check the keys work and it seems a shame to not enjoy using it :-P
I love seeing all the shiny boards we have here, the artsy pics too. But I'm curious, what are people typing on day to day? what's on your desk being used at the moment? let's see those daily drivers!!
For the last two weeks, my go-to has been my 2016 Pro 2
So i thought i would treat myself to a kb01 toward the collection, its pretty beat up but its now mine and I can proudly say i own most of the major revisions of this beautiful board.
Each board holds a story.
Just need to sell my 2 spare pro 2 and then I can fill some gaps.
Its been a productive evening dome swapping and tuning my 2020 Hybrid. just fancied something a little something different in my collection. bit of music, and chill time. Very therapeutic.
Took my boards iut the other day for a little family photo and some TLC.

I've been a long-time HHKB user and switched to it originally because I was experiencing RSI symptoms. The move to the HHKB significantly helped, and I've been comfortable with it for years.
For pointing devices I've mainly used a Logitech G Pro Wireless and MX Master. These days I'm almost entirely productivity-focused and don't game at all.
I work in Cyber Security and spend most of my day in spreadsheets, ticketing systems, browsers, documentation, terminals, and remote sessions. One feature I use heavily on the MX Master is the thumb wheel for horizontal scrolling in Excel.
I'm interested in trying a trackball, primarily from an ergonomics/RSI prevention perspective, but I'm completely new to them and not sure where to start.
What confuses me is the huge variety of options:
My priorities are:
If you were recommending a top 3 trackballs for someone coming from an HHKB + MX Master setup, what would they be and why?
I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who switched to a trackball specifically because of RSI concerns. Did you find thumb-ball or finger-ball designs better in the long run?
Thanks!

This time an HHKB Lite 1 has appeared lol
So lately I have been comparing bottom rows on boards sold as "HHKB" or "HHKB layout" and a lot of them don't actually match PFU's original spec — the real HHKB has a 6u spacebar with asymmetric 1.5u/1u mod clusters that don't even mirror each other. Most of the boards using the label seem to just be Tsangan-style 60%s with blockers and no arrow cluster.
Makes me wonder if "HHKB layout" has just become a trendy label brands slap on because HHKB has such a following, rather than a real dimensional promise. Is HHKB having a bit of a moment right now and companies are riding the name recognition? Or has the term always been used loosely and I'm just noticing it for the first time?
Curious what it means to everyone else, and whether the marketing use bugs you or if it's just accepted as shorthand at this point. Anyone else have other examples?
