Grafting in Austria

In Austria we grafted Zweigelt to Pinot Noir at the Feldtheorie Winery and Grüner Veltliner to Chenin Blanc for my winery (Kapitel Zwei Wine) . Prior to the grafting we have to brush off the old bark on a 10cm area to prepare for the cutting. It’s hard work in 30C heat. We will graft about 400 of each and while we don’t have a harvest this year, next year it should be normal harvest. In the video you can see the grafting of the bud on the existing 30 year old vine.

Attention Students: New Student-Run Wine Marketing Agency in Austria - Classes in English

In addition to being a wine grower I also teach wine marketing at the University of Applied Sciences in Krems, Austria -- minutes away from the Wachau, Kremstal and Kamptal wine regions. This past year we have been experimenting with a new teaching concept we call the Budburst Agency. It's a student-run wine marketing agency where students learn by applying marketing strategies for small and medium-sized wineries in the region. This past semester students launched a Shopify store, conducted branding surveys for label designs and bottle formats and collected data to promote their own wine fair and pop-up bar. Check us out if you are considering working in the wine industry. Classes are in English and the study fee is 363.36 EUR for EU and EEA students.

33 Days Growth - Chenin Blanc in Austria - 24 April to 26 May

If you are curious to see how quickly a grapevine grows this will give you a little insight. The variety is Chenin Blanc. 3 years old, growing in Austria. It's a stand-alone vine that didn't fit in the row, so I am training it in the Mosel Heart technique where you take 2-3 canes and bind them on the stake in downward loops.

Servus, I was curious to see if the KlimaTicket is worth the 1400 EUR after 1 year, so I created a simple app to keep track of my ÖBB trips and u-bahn tickets. Maybe it is also useful for you? Send me a Reddit chat message with your email address and I will add you to the TestFlight. Only available for iOS. And full disclosure, I am a a wine grower, not an app developer, so feel free to give suggestions for the app, but this is just something I created with Claude to help me with my expenses. I may or may not make updates.
