Tired of crowded waterfalls in Meghalaya? Save this one.

If you're travelling from Mawkdok-Sohra route of Meghalaya and want to explore a little more offbeat than the usual, Umrupiah Falls is one place I'd genuinely recommend putting on the list.

What I love about this place is that it doesn't demand a whole day of trekking to reach.

From the parking point, it's roughly a 30 mins hike to the falls and when we visited, we were literally the only ones there.

No regular crowd.

No line of tourists waiting for photographs.

Just the sound of nature and the forest around us and enough space to breathe in peace.

That's what makes Umrupiah so unique.

Alongside,

there's a nice little indigenous cafe along the way 👀

If you're making a day out of the route, you can also stop at Mei Ramew Cafe and try out some traditional, authentic Khasi food. Especially, the "Sha Krai" known as Millet tea, is a 100/10. It's more like a herbal medicine and very nutritious.

It makes the whole experience more like spending a day in Meghalaya, less like a tourist, and more like a local.

If you're the kind of traveller who'd rather explore deeper to find quieter stops, Umrupiah is definitely worth knowing about.

And if you're visiting Meghalaya and would like to explore places like this with someone who knows the lesser-known routes, feel free to reach out.

Just one request if you visit: leave the place exactly as you found it. Kindly , DO NOT LITTER HERE.

Bet you have not seen this side of Meghalaya!

If you're planning a trip to Sohra (Cherrapunji) and the usual tourist circuit isn't really your thing, here's the hidden site for you.

Tucked away along the way to Sohra, there's a lesser-explored stretch from the highway where few heavenly waterfalls are located within a 40mins to 1hr hike.

It’s the kind of place I’d recommend to someone who tells me:

“I’m coming to Cherrapunji, but I don’t want my entire trip to be just Nohkalikai, Seven Sisters and the touristy stops.”

Ideal Time?

August–September is when I’d recommend experiencing this corner. The landscape is at its most green lush, and the waterfalls are alive, making it an incredible spot for an autumn swim surrounded by Meghalaya's rolling hills.

If you're that kind of traveller; someone who'd rather walk a little, explore a little deeper, and find the quieter side of Meghalaya, I'd be happy to take you there.

- Notice : No littering here.

[ I’m currently guiding travellers around offbeat corners of Meghalaya and can help you explore these lesser-known trails and waterfalls ]

Planning Sohra anytime this season?

Feel free to DM for a guided visit. 🌿

Looking for 2-3 fellows to explore a place in Meghalaya most people have never reached!

Looking for a few trekkers/travellers interested in exploring an offbeat location in jaintia hills (Meghalaya).

The spot is largely unknown outside a small circle of explorers and locals, it is completely untouched by mainstream tourism.

Reaching it requires a trek of a little over an hour, so a decent level of fitness is recommended.

The plan is simple.. we travel together, split expenses, and experience a place that only few ones get to see. Whether you're a regular trekker or someone who enjoys meaningful quests beyond the usual tourist destinations, then you're welcome.

I've always felt that some of the best travel experiences come from meeting people along the way. A shared journey often creates life full of memories than a critically planned holiday.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, feel free to comment or message me directly. I'll share more details of the plan, if required.

Hi everyone, looking for a reliable local taxi driver for a trip to Kongthong Village. (also, who can know enough hindi).

We are 5 adults travelling together (including an elderly person), so we’re specifically looking for a comfortable vehicle with proper seating capacity, preferably a bigger car/jeep rather than small hatchbacks like an S-Presso.

Itinerary details —

Pickup point: Mawjrong Center.

Route: Mawjrong → Kongthong.

If any local drivers or taxi agencies are available for hire and can assist with the trip planning, please feel free to drop a text.
