For the 1st day I'm confused whether to stay in Shillong or Nongjrong

I've not included double decker root bridge because i heard it's very extensive trek and I won't be able to do it. Is single decker root bridge as good as double decker

Meghalaya trip for two females in mid June.

Can someone share contact numbers of reliable local cab drivers in Meghalaya? I want to get an idea of the overall travel expenditure.

Meghalaya trip with family.

**Planning a 4-day Meghalaya trip (8–13 June 2026) β€” Shillong + Cherrapunji + 2 more spots if possible. Budget traveler, need local advice! πŸ™**

Hey everyone! Long-time lurker, first-time poster here. My family and I (3 people β€” 2 ladies + 1 adult male) are finally doing the Meghalaya trip we've been dreaming about for years. Flying in and out of Guwahati. Dates: **8th to 13th June 2026** (gives us roughly 4 full days of travel).

We're not backpackers, but we're not luxury travelers either β€” just regular middle-class folks who want to see the most beautiful places without burning a hole in the pocket.

---

**What we definitely want to cover:**

- Shillong (city, waterfalls, viewpoints)

- Cherrapunji / Sohra (Nohkalikai, caves, the whole deal)

- 2 more destinations if time and weather permit β€” open to suggestions!

---

**Specific things I'm looking for:**

πŸš— **Transport** β€” Is it better to hire a private cab for all 4 days or do day-by-day? What's a fair price for an Ertiga or similar from a Shillong-based driver? Any trusted cab contacts welcome (DM is fine).

🏨 **Stays** β€” Budget hotels or homestays, clean and safe for ladies. Preferably not switching hotels too many times. Rough budget: β‚Ή800–1,500/night for the room (we'll share). Any specific names in Shillong or Sohra?

🧭 **Local guide / trusted person** β€” This is important to me. I'd rather pay a bit for someone honest and knowledgeable than get ripped off solo. Does anyone have a contact β€” a local guide, a driver who doubles as a guide, or even a WhatsApp group where Meghalaya travelers coordinate? Any recommendations for people you've personally traveled with?

🌧️ **June travel** β€” I know June is early monsoon. We're okay with rain and actually excited for the waterfall experience. But are there specific spots that become genuinely dangerous or inaccessible in early June? And is Dawki river still worth visiting?

πŸ’° **Honest budget** β€” What's a realistic total for 3 people for 4 days (excluding flights)? I've seen estimates ranging from β‚Ή25,000 to β‚Ή60,000 online and have no idea what's accurate.

---

**What we're NOT looking for:**

- Strenuous treks (knee issues in the group, so no double-decker root bridge this time πŸ˜…)

- Tourist traps with inflated prices

- Copy-paste "Top 10 Places" type advice β€” we get enough of that from Google

---

If you've traveled to Meghalaya recently (especially in monsoon season), your insight is gold. If you're a local or know someone trustworthy on the ground, please drop a comment or DM.

Thanks in advance β€” this community always comes through. πŸ™

MEGHALAYA taught me a lesson.

Back from Meghalaya: Shillong local β†’ Cherrapunji β†’ Jowai side. I went expecting beautiful views, waterfalls, and memories and Meghalaya delivered. But I think I’m taking back more than just photos.

What stood out was the discipline even in traffic, there was more patience, fewer unnecessary horns, and a sense of order in small things. But more than that, it was the people. There was a language barrier at times, yet everyone genuinely tried their best to understand and help. Whether it was directions or small interactions, people made an effort, and that stayed with me.

Somewhere during the journey, I unknowingly picked up a small habit too "saying β€œthank you” more often." Funny how some places leave behind lessons, not just memories.

Love u people...

I grew up in Mawlynnong and only later realized how special life here feels 🌿

Growing up in Mawlynnong, I never realized how unusual it was to see tourists from different parts of India and even other countries walking through our village almost every day.

Even though the village gets busy during the daytime, there’s still something exciting about the atmosphere here β€” the greenery, the local food, the sound of people exploring the village paths, and evenings becoming calmer once most visitors leave.
