Childcare Crisis

Childcare Crisis

Hello,

Like so many other families, mine is struggling to find childcare. I'm on the wait lists and have been for years. Calling them doesn't generate more spaces. We had wonderful care that my children aged out of when they started kindergarten and now we cannot find anything that works to get them to and from their catchment school. Luckily we've been able to use Schools of Choice and make it work, but it really is a band-aid solution and won't work longterm. I've reached out to members of government to share my concerns, and received very diplomatic responses ("Thank you for your advocacy"). I'm going to take an alternative approach to my advocacy by posting on the internet. Here is a screenshot west Winnipeg from of the Manitoba Child Care Search showing daycares with school-age vacancies. There are two.

*note that the address listed for one of the two only options shown is actually in West St. Paul, and the other option doesn`t service my catchment school.

It seems to me like there needs to be some partnerships and communication among schools, the province, and daycare providers to help align day care spaces with projected enrolment. The data exists!

I am so frustrated and needed to rant, so thank you for providing a platform for my "advocacy."
