i left and complained to a staff member for the first time

more of a rant than a discussion. went to see toy story 5 for the second time tonight. of course, going into a movie like this i fully expect there to be children present. there was a family of 6 sitting behind me, 4 of which were children probably between 10-14. they were being really talkative but i didn’t do anything about it initially.

about 30 minutes into the movie, i hear something hit the seat beside me (it was empty). i didn’t say anything but they kept talking to each other. after another few minutes i turned around and asked them to be quiet. once i turned back around, they started intentionally talking louder to each other.

something else gets thrown towards me and hits my shoulder. i look and it’s a gummy of some sort. i asked them to stop throwing things at me and one of them said “i didn’t throw anything”. his parent told him to sit back and be quiet (for the first time).

a few minutes later i hear his dad say “don’t” to him which i’m assuming meant he tried throwing another one and his dad saw. another few minutes goes by and ANOTHER gummy hits me. at that point i grabbed the two gummies i could find and left the theater. i found an employee and told them what happened and they got me a manager.

i know there’s been so much discussion about movie theater etiquette being in the toilet, but i had not experienced something that bad ever. i told the manager what happened (while crying, mind you, which was so annoying and embarrassing cause i genuinely don’t know what made me so emotional). they got me a new seat, and talked to the parents. i could still hear them talking through the rest of the movie, but i left before the post credit scene.

i’m glad the theater did something and they did say it was unacceptable (which of course i knew), but at the same time i feel like a tattletale for even making it a thing. i asked them twice verbally to stop and when the third thing was thrown at me i got up.

should i have just not said anything? i have a-list so i didn’t pay for my reservation, and had already seen the movie once, but i feel like kids should be told (first by their parent but that wasn’t happening) then by other people that they shouldn’t behave like that towards people, let alone in a theater during a movie. idk. this experience just sucked.

a great month for a-list :)

what a fun month for the movies! i’ve seen 10 so far with at least 2 more on the schedule before month end. really glad AMC brought back milk and moonlight to enjoy in theaters.

a-list brings me so much joy :’)

this is the first time this has happened to me :(

i’m really sad. i’ve been wanting to see i love boosters and have heard great things about it. this show was the only one i’d have been able to make it to with their current showtimes. i’m hoping my local theater adds more shows for it soon :’)
