My question: how do you decide what types of decisions to make yourself? What do you request input on? How do you encourage shared ownership and mobilize people around new ideas and initiatives?

I'm realizing that, especially with initiatives I'm spearheading where I have no formal authority, that I tend toward a more collaborative leadership model. I try to gather input from others on what they want, how they want it; whether they'd like to contribute and how. The problem: This takes a long time, and others may think I'm overcomplicating processes without enough to show for results.

Seeing how other people get initiatives going, it seems like they're more willing just to make a decision and run with it. This is certainly quicker. However, I don't want a situation where I end up owning the initiative long-term, where I'm actually trying to create shared movement and ownership.

How do you navigate these situations? What do you consider? What tips you one way or another?
